I don't mean to sound arrogant but I always remain sceptical over the 'United excuse'

United were beaten twice in the league before we beat them in that derby.

what does it have to do with anything? it was second, maybe third PL game that i ever watched, and i never knew the standings or anything after a couple weeks after the game when the football paper concerning this gameday arrived to my little town in the Far North of Russia.

rough head this morning i bet ;-) lol

I ve not read this whole thread, can't be arsed to be honest, but, get a fucking grip some of you
You think cos you was at 'this game, that game, it gives you more rights to be a City fan than anyone else. I've supported City since 1968, an 11 year old child who did not want to follow Utd or Liverpool. I just wanted to be different!
Some of these foreign guys probably want the same things too!
If they were rags you'd rip the piss out of them, but they've been 'chosen '
That's how it works, get over yourselves!
I've grown up as an odd ball cos of my team, had the piss ripped out of me so many times that I wish I had supported Arsenal, even tho they're 200 miles from where I live.
But I didn't, I stuck with the Blues, thru thick and thin, now it's MY time!

There's been times when I've thought, "fuck this shower of shit"

Then the morning after, like a bad girlfriend , I've forgiven her and started afresh.

GivE these new guys a chance !
Imagine being 100's if not 1000's of miles away from something that was different to the norm. Like Punk Rock was to some of us lot in the 70's!
A CHANCE to be different !
I'm gonna break out of the city
Leave the people here behind
Searching for adventure
It's the kind of life to find
Tired of doing day jobs
With no thanks for what I do
I know I must be someone
Now I'm gonna find out who

Why don't you ask them what they expect from you ?
Why don't you tell them what you're gonna do
You get so lonely, maybe it's better that way
It ain't you only, you got something to say
Do anything you wanna do
Do anything you wanna do

I don't need no politicians to tell me things I shouldn't be
Neither no opticians to tell me what I oughta see
No-one tells you nothing even when you know they know
They tell you what you should be
They don't like to see you grow

Why don't you ask them what they expect from you ?
Why don't you tell them what you're gonna do
You get so lonely, maybe it's better that way
It ain't you only, you got something to say
Do anything you wanna do

Sorry guys, I've done in a bottle of sailor jerrys and 4 San Miguels
Do anything you wanna do!!!

Fortunately the haters are in the minority and act like a spoilt brat who does not want to share his toys with other kids or even worse acts like a playground bully targetting new kids.

They also come across like the uncle in fools and horses going on about the war, only in this case they were there when we were shit blah blah.

Perhaps they prefer that we had no success or exposure to attract new fans and we kept the 28000 - 30000 that we left Main Road with and we had mediocre players.

They go on about how the new fans are glory hunters and have only started to support us, since we started winning. How is some kid in a village in africa, asia going to know or be able to support city when we were shit when the only the exposure we had was comedy.

No one can argue that it was the fans who kept this club alive in the dark days and we should never forget that. I will admit that I did not go to
York away but I was there for all the home games during the Frank Clarke era, when the only things you had look forward to was the gallows humour and affinity showed by other blues.

I only hope that when new fans visit this site and read some of the hate posts they dont think it is a reflection of the bigger blue family, because it isnt. Ten years ago I was on holiday in northern spain and was wearing my city top. A group of spanish students were staring and one came across and ask me what was the club as they didnt recognise it . When I told them they had never heard of it. Is this what the haters want to go back to?

there is also a question i'd like to ask to those who are targetting the "glory hunters" the "plastic" or the "chinese" fans , a simple question

with a 20M a year matchday income how do you think to compete in the long term against clubs which have 5 times as much from the gates ?

Which one, Home or Away? :P

I remember the home game vaguely, Didn't go to Bootham.

I think the clue was in the question 'Did you go to York away?'

Why would you have an 'ironic sneer' when someone says they went to York away and you didn't?
Very strange.

Because its been overused so much on here as this symbol of "being a bigger blue than you" that when some genuine blues I've met offline have said they went to this fixture myself and many others have laughed it off.

Almost like saying you've fucked Pam Anderson because you have a picture with her at Maddam Tusseuds.

It's just a laugh. Nothing personal.

But that's like calling a rag a couch fan if you've never been to watch City live yourself. A couple of my brothers in law went to a few aways in 98/99 including York and i'm proud they did.
Nothing personal mate but if you didn't go, you can't take the p1ss out of anyone who did or didn't go to York.

Whoa, I'm not taking the piss out of blues who did go to this match, my original point was people on here have used this fixture so much as some badge of honour/reflection of how big of a blue they are - that it has become some form of parody.
So when a friend has mentioned that they have attended this fixture in the past weve just thrown around a 'bit of banter.

I respect all matchgoers, even United fans. I don't tend to have issues when discussing football with matchgoing Reds as you can tell they are genuine supporters and their views are more reflective of what's going on on the pitch rather than a couch fan who is heavily influenced by Murdoch.

If the new fans are going to stick with us through the crap times then the more the merrier in my opinion. The specific player "fanboys" are only a temporary problem because once that player leaves so will they so I don't see a problem there either to be honest.

That's the crux of it for me. Over the years seen plenty of different nationalities come through the the doors at Bluemoon. The ones who stick around tend to find their way here because of a general connection to City, the ones who tend to disappear are the fanboys who come for a player/manager and leave as soon as that player/manager leaves. Nature of the beast I suppose, but as the club has grown exponentially over recent years, so have the number of people on the forum, and therefore the number of these fanboys.
