Lost a bit of interest this season

There are dome dummies being spat out in this thread, I highly doubt that this thread would have appeared if we had got off to a flyer, in fact I know it would not have.

There was a thread just like this on Rag Cafe the season we beat them to the title
There are factors in people's disillusionment that are probably related to how we're playing. But there are some that reflect a genuine problem that people have with the game in general.

That's as may be, but it's pretty obvious to me that people had such high expectations of us actually playing some entertaining football this season, and what they have seen has left them feeling deflated

Sure things are different since I was a kid at Maine Road, but I fail to see what this Mythical "Match Day Experience" people keep harping on about, they sell over priced food and drink, which you don't have to purchase just like they always have the rest is just a bit of fluff .

I do agree the atmosphere has become very flat, but that has more to do with what is being played on the pitch, give the crowd something to get excited about and they atmosphere will improve

Is it just me or does anybody else feel the same at the moment.

I can see where the OP is coming from and have thought the same but cannot put my finger on it. I think a combination of :
1:Watching City for 40 years waiting and hoping for success. The FA cup then the title arrived and maybe for some that holy grail was reached.

2: I used to enjoy the walk up to the stadium, be it Maine Road or the Etihad with no idea what the outcome of the match would be. I think it's fair to say that in 80% of our home fixtures now it's a safe bet that City will win and those games we are just far too strong for the opposition or they park the bus. Either way it doesn't make great viewing.

3: The increasing cost of following City especially with the recent success is starting to hurt many fans. It's a case of you do not want to miss Wembley semis and Finals, cup runs and Champions league games but instead of enjoying the prospect of the exciting games ahead I find myself wincing when the e mail arrives thanking me for my purchase ( there are 4 of us ) in all cup schemes aswell .

4: Finally the atmosphere is changing. We used to have to be the 12th man on many occasions as our team was usually up against it. No similar to the Swamp we can sit there comfortable in the fact that our team can for the most part "do it by themselves" also our success has brought in the "new fans" and we are whether we like it or not heading down the Swamp route if we are not careful.

Im sure that as a previous poster stated the Agueroooooo moment has an affect aswell. We will never top that moment but I wouldn't swap it for the world , a million fans of clubs throughout the UK can only dream of witnessing their club have such a moment.

My personal issues are not with City but football in general, City's recent success have made my match going days less frequent.
With work and family commitments it makes it very difficult too attend mid-week fixtures and some Sunday games.
With the money that the TV companies have pumped into the game they dictate our kick off times, and with our recent success we are now dictated too more often than not, which in turn has a knock on effect in my attendance.
Once I got into the habit of missing games I've found it harder too motivate myself to make the effort, poor I know. Apathy.
I think it must be an age thing, loved Saturday kick offs at 3pm when I travelled the length of the country to watch City, which at the time was my main focus in life.
I loved doing what the young ones are doing now, singing my heart out in the pub before the game then standing with my mates and singing at the game, having the craic, minus abusing other blues.
TV overkill and spiralling costs, all seater stadiums don't help the working class football fan which in turn has a negative affect on the atmosphere, saying all that MP will turn it around, onwards and upwards.

I feel the same as the OP

first season I've ever not bothered with the Cup Schemes ( though cost has a lot to do with that)

the end of last season (sacking Mancini ,the diabolical FA Cup Final performance and losing at home to Norwich) and the poor start to this season have quite a bit to do with it

I also have an ominous sense of foreboding that we will struggle this season and not make the top4?!?!?

I agree. Thought I wanted Mancini as manager for the next 10 years, but media pressure and fans grumbling soon seen me await the axe on his neck. A city defeat back 10 years ago used ruin my Saturday and weekend. Not anymore, I barely know who we play 2 games away these days. City not as important in my life since my trio of sons came along. Still love the blues and wouldn't miss a game online/tv. I don't " get over " anything near like what I used to, but from what I gather the atmosphere is cinema anyway, which is a huge shame

Put this under "glory hunter"

Still waiting for us to be in a position to field our strongest eleven, though I don't want to be sat for months repeating last year's mantra of 'just waiting for us to click'.

I still enjoy watching City but it is no longer the b and end all of life.

The premier league is over hyped and over rated and I really get fed up with the endless prattle between matches. Not been able to watch an international match for years and recently when I have set out with the intention of listening to England on the radio I have fallen asleep. Sera A is boring with defenders getting away with murder. Spain and Germany are both dominated by 2 clubs and generally both of these have better defensive abilities. Other teams in these leagues just can't defend and illustrate why you shouldn't buy forwards who play in these leagues as they have generally had it very easy. Bayern and Dortmund are good to watch because of their attacking and midfield qualities. Atmosphere in Germany looks terrific but in Turkey it still looks frightening! Most CL league games apart from City are pointless until after the groups stages when the draw can produce some good games. I have always enjoyed an away day but costs are prohibitive as is the general micky taking at away grounds where several just set out to rip you off. Also fed up with the diving and stupid player antics - feigning injury is just a joke. Gave up buying programmes years ago and don't even bother reading the banal rubbish in my free e copy. Can't see why a pie and a pint should cost me so much inside the ground so I buy it outside locally. Bought a few recent kits but not prepared to buy one advertised as being made from plastic bottles at ridiculous prices. Still really enjoy the company of fellow blues and owe a pint to the lads from Glossop who we were drinking with inside Wembley. Watch every minute of every game I attend and hate the late arrivers and early leavers who are always the same people, and actually manage to do it in both halves of the match. Stood for years in the Kippax and now prefer to sit in the seat I have purchased. Enjoy a drink but don't want to be sat next to somebody the worse for WEAR or who just can't behave in a reasonable manner that doesn't impair upon the enjoyment of others. Because so many of us tolerate or turn a blind eye to unacceptable behaviour we all get treated with same blanket regulations which are necessary given the the continuing status quo. Really enjoy sitting where I do and with the same people for lots and lots of years. Enjoy a city victory but can appreciate a good game or team (Losing 0-4 to arsenal at half time was enjoyable!)

Watching City work hard to capture the corporate crew is worrying but to date I don't feel ripped of by the ticket prices with good bargains around for early round cup scheme games. Hoping for a few away draws at local clubs this year. I do want City to work harder at keeping the core group of supporters engaged and we need to do something about our home ground atmosphere. We did our bit in the Kippax for years and our subsequent generations of singers need a single section to lead others from.

As previously posted I know that the Aguerooooooo and Dickov moments will never be bettered and having been there for 2 Championships, 2 FA Cups and 2 League Cups, numerous relegations, promotions and disasters I am looking towards Europe where I have only managed TNS away in Cardiff!

But I must stress that I still get excited on match day and look forward to the game. Can't wait for the weekend. Whoops TONIGHT. Come on City.

Sorry for going of on one but I hope this will strike a chord with similar feelings experienced by others and partially illustrate the initial difficulty in getting going at present.

Is it just me or does anybody else feel the same at the moment.
There's been an underlying negative feeling towards football with me for a while now.

I'm getting absolutely sick to death of so many things whilst trying to convince myself that things are all rosey.

From all the diving, feigning injury, time wasting, swearing at the officials; to the terrible atmospheres; to the ridiculous ticket prices; to things at City with it feeling like a kids theme park, everyone sitting in silence unless it's to moan at the players, even away games have really lacked a good atmosphere and enjoyment factor recently; to things like the Qatar World Cup, lack of interest in evolving the game with modern technology; then to players who on the whole seem like chavvy wankers with loads of money who seem to think they can do and say what they want...

There are many many things which make me feel that, really, this is a sport for big girl's blouses and cünts! and it's a game which lacks class.

I try to ignore it all - and i really do ignore all the media stuff, which i do think people do get overly paranoid about, but it is there a little bit - but there's something just not right about the game on the whole at the moment.

It isn't in any way related to the money side of things with "rich foreign owners buying clubs as a play-thing". I think that's a load of bollocks. Football has always been about money. The richest, or those spending the most have always been the ones to succeed: Davies at Newton Heath, Norris at Woolwich Arsenal, Gibson at United, the Moores on Merseyside, the Edwards at United, Harding at Chelsea...all buying success right throughout the history of the game well before Sheikh Mansour came to City, the Qataris went to Paris or even Abramovic going to Chelsea.

For me, it's not that. It's something else. A wider thing. It's like there's no class in the game. I feel embarrassed by some of the things that go on. It's got to the point with the diving and feigning injury that i'd rather just turn over and watch something else, or if it's a City game (and luckily we don't have too many of this type of player) where everyone else is crying at the ref i'm actually shouting at our player to "get the fuck up and get on with it".

I think the game needs a major shake up. Someone at the top not afraid to tell everyone their cünts and they're acting like cünts and making this a game for cünts. Someone to bring some class back to the sport. Let the sport move with the times, with technology across the game. Not let clubs rape as much money out of the fans as they possibly can - but that will only start when chumps stop paying for and going to the games which are overpriced (it's your fault more than the clubs if you pay for the prices they set) - because overall increases in ticket prices bring in very little overall profit to clubs but it could be a huge hit to the fan. Someone who will properly stand up and bring in Safe Standing. Someone who won't set stupid rules about not being allowed to take in flags with sticks over 2m long. Someone who will shake up clubs' Academies from the jokes they are at present and get a system in place where clubs can actually produce their own local talent rather than just wai 'til U16 where they just bring in a ready-made foreign lad...

I also want fans to be much more proactive at trying to change things. The atmospheres in this country - now even with away fans too - is utterly dreadful. But so too is the attitude of fans who just sit there and take it when clubs do certain things - again, like Arsenal away last year with all the chumps that paid that money and went to the game, you're all just saying "yeah charge what you want, i'll still pay it"! All the ShowSec shit with us being told to sit down and so on...

I actually love football. But not football as it currently is.
