Lucas Paqueta investigated by FA for alleged betting breaches

The obsession over costs is frightening, everyone who knows the game knows it's been going like this for a very long while, yes I admit it does look at times that we are paying over the odds,a case of charge City more, but can work the other way sometimes as well,Akanji a great example in this present team.

So for people saying he's not worth this or worth that, may as well just sit back, relax, turn football manager off the pc, and realise that every transfer is a risk at the end of the day

We’ve consistently found young talent, and brought them on.

Yes they market is ridiculous at the moment, but it doesn’t mean we need to run with it. To be it’s got a sense of a bit of a panic buy about it, which is out of character for city.

Is he really better than Foden could be in that position?
That's irrelevant. We're looking to add quality and depth to make up for the departures of Gundo and Mahrez. Which is a good thing.

I realised the other day that by the end of this season Phil will be the same age Kev was when he joined us.

I know I will have been perceived to be Phil bashing in the last week. I’m not trying to. It’s probably my impatience that he’s not already there yet. As you say though, time is on his side.

He’s awesome, he’s just not reached his full potential yet, having had 5-6 years of Pep. Maybe KDB being injured more will give Foden more exposure as an 8 and he may well take off and become the superstar we know he could be.

Paqueta and Kovecic will likely rotate for the other 8 spot on the left, depending on the opponent.

I will reiterate once again, we should have sign Maddison. He is proven quality, meanwhile we are still wondering if Paqueta is just another samba dancer that thinks the football field is a ballroom or something. Some healthy dose of realism is needed when it comes to Paqueta and his ability.
So, you’re just confirming that you haven’t got a scooby about player talent. Cool.

City wouldn’t be entertaining a bid of over £85m for Paqueta if Gundo had extended his stay. So it leaves us in a tricky situation. The squad depth was already thin before mahrez and Gundo left. Phillips so far has not worked out and pep seems reluctant to play Grealish or Foden as the 10.

So where does that leave us? Knocking at West Ham’s door for a player who is not world class and struggled to adopt to English football but has the potential to be that player. The fee will be huge due to inflation and our seemingly limited options.

50/50 opinions on this deal. Ultimately, the club is in an awkward position due to the above reasons. So although I don’t like the fee, I can see why City have decided to pay it.

As long as we go back to our normally approach after this summer then I am fine with us making an exception to pay a premium fee on this occasion. Throw in KDB problems and Paqueta becomes a necessity.

Everyone saying how he will improve under Pep's training, at the money being thrown about I would like to think he will be playing soon not needing to improve - certainly don't want to wait until next season to see a decent player.
He can definitely do a good job and then the seasons after, elevate his ability.

Or Haaland,Alvarez,Rodri,Diaz,Bernado,Aka,Akanji,Stones etc etc etc.through the squad..

We have a world class team built by those who know what the fuck they're talking about.

I hope one day city fans who doubt our world class decision making wake up and smell the coffee.
I note with interest that you left Kalvin Phillips off your list of players that you used as evidence of our world class decision making ;)

And sell them 1 year later to make money,City do not buy players to sell them on at a profit 1 year later, they buy them to help bring success.
Just because Brighton sells some of theirs doesn't mean every club that finds such gems has to sell them. With the right systems in place, top players still exist.

Interesting post, but, you know, Pep and Txiki clearly saw something in Phillips. £40 million is not peanuts. I hasten to add that I don’t go in for Phillips bashing, and I’m still not absolutely convinced that he’s not at the required level. What I do see, though, is that Pep himself simply doesn’t give him minutes in near meaningless matches, i.e. Community Shield. So hemust have seen something that he doesn’t much like, since Kalvin is now completely fit.
Let’s say that, 9 times out of 10, our maestros get it right. This might just be the tenth time. That’s all we’re discussing here.
Otherwise, we can all just say “Pep’s judgement is infallible”, and close down this thread. But there’s only one person who’s officially infallible, and that’s the pope (and that’s wrong too). By the way, personally, I’m far from being a drum-beater for Maddison.

I ain't bashing him neither, although I am to the thinking, and Pep MUST be himself, that he don't look upto it,so I will always wonder why we did sign him in the first place, just don't get it me,probably never will.

There's no second season syndrome coming into play here neither with looks, all as I can think is that Pep is still not happy yet after calling him out for being a fat ****
