Yes Rice wanted to go last season but was persuaded to stay a year and then be allowed to move if the right offer came in

We are an experienced body short but let's not act like the other clubs we'll be competing with have super deep sqauds with no younger players as their immediate back-ups

What we can say is that our starting midfield/attack is clearly the best of the above

And what we can also say is our defence is stronger/deeper than those above

I think the Rags have the most expensive bench, maybe chelsea pip them.

What does he mean by “we have him for another season like Rice”?

Rice wanted to leave last summer, but agreed to stay another year. Think he says this could be something similar, West Ham fans seems convinced clubs will be lining up to pay that 85m release clause next summer.

I would rather say that the chances of us coming back for Paqueta next summer are small. Simply because if we cant sort out a deal with West Ham now we will probably sign someone else. I understand that West Ham fans have no problems with that since they obviously want their best players to stay, but from Paquetas point of view this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. He is closer to 30 than 20 and every year from now on its less likely a big club comes in for him. I would be surprised if he's not pushing hard to make this move happen.
