Yep, in theory you can even get banned if a friend or family member puts a bet on without you knowing. I think it was Kieran Trippier who got done for that.

I've always thought it was dodgy they even took bets on transfer deals tbh. Especially when Skybet was still owned by Sky and they could just put a bullshit transfer rumour on SSN and artificially lower the odds.

It's not a criminal court, I would bet the FA can ban him if the betting is unusual enough.
