I am surprised at all the folk criticising the team selection and comparing it to a TWO LEGGED FIXTURE WITH RM - it ain't the same- you cannot compare the two so each requires a different tactical approach - take the chances you win it is quite simple- tactics were working fine second half - add in the shite refereeing and VAR and you have the perfect 'loss'.

I have been very consistent this season in saying I think our biggest problem has been a lack of pace and natural width, caused by Sane's injury and subsequent departure.ctid, the last sentence raises an interesting point. Many posters were alarmed at the line up, yet Pep had full confidence in it. I wonder why he done this? He must have known that formation required a certain type of player/players yet selected a very iffy team. If it was a gamble, the signs were there early on it wasn't working yet he continued with it. I just can't tally up the formation and selection.
Personally I think Pep knows the problem, hence why Torres was our first signing.
However Pep's hands have been tied this season. The lack of pace and natural width have meant we have had no option but to play centrally more frequently, which teams have realised and exploited by packing central areas and catching us in possession, which has lead to numerous goals conceded on the break. To try and minimise that vulnerability Pep has gone for technical superiority in midfield, which has resulted in some teams physically dismantling us and giving us a bit of a slap.
People blame the defence and CB's in particular but they're being left exposed by a drive for technical superiority rather than a technical/physical balance in midfield. Gundogan, Rodri and Silva (Fernandinho, Mahrez, Mendy and Aguero all exaggerate the problems too) are all limited physically and cause our defence untold problems when played together.
A few new signings to give us the pace and width back will fix the defensive problems as well, as teams won't be able to defend narrow and deep against us. They won't be winning the ball in central areas as frequently meaning they won't have as many counter attacks, so our defence will be less exposed as a result.
Not good enough out wide and the same as a striker, brings incredible energy into the game, amazing 1st line of defence but a striker's job is to score and create chances and to me he is not good enough.According to Jesus, he doesn't see himself as a central forward, but prefers to play on the left. Maybe there lies the problem.

Think we all know he needs 65 chances to score 30 goalsSterling's miss at Burnley from a yard out was the worst miss I thought I would ever see in my lifetime but tonight he's outdone himself. Easier to score doesn't do it justice. Just roll it in, don't aim to fire it in via the underside of the crossbar.

I know its only a game of football etc but im struggling to get over last night. Genius that Pep is when he gets it wrong its spectacular.
what niggles me though Is ive never felt he has the fans at heart. When we lost to united and couldve won the league i felt he didnt grasp what that wouldve meant to the fans.
Its just so disappointing.

Given the players at his disposal that was up their with the worst team selection and tactics I’ve ever seen by a City manager. It was genuinely that bad and baffling. This was hardly an insight view everybody was saying it an hour before kick off. He basically wasted a full half of a one legged game after a full weeks rest by his appalling tactics that completely handed the Initiative to a fairly average side.
