Lyon CL QF Post-Match Thread

he said I thought we were ready to win the competition but we are not, fuck off with that stuff,we are not at the level of anyone else with a squad like ours, then his nonsense about the game,he didn't take responsibility ,he implied it was the p!ayers not him,he had five subs,he could have changed it but waited over an hour and brought on the wrong one,his constant we are not ready bollocks is just that, bollocks
I want someone to ask Pep, when will we be ready? and hopefully it will be Khaldoon tomorrow morning!

All those points might be correct and I’ve no problem with it being pointed out because we lost and questions should be asked.
He put out the team he thought could win that game, and on another night it could have done, even taking into account the poor overall performance.

we could have won but we didn’t .misses were missed , var, but honestly that game should have been won from the beginning, pep completely handed the initiative to Lyon and we chased the game.

also against Real Madrid we did a high press and chasing Them down , against Lyon we were back to slow walk pass Crab football.

So your happy with that performance then!
Gutted we’re out, gutted most of the players didn’t do what was required when asked and gutted I’ve had to read some of the vitriol against our manager which goes past justified criticism.

Think we really miss Arteta. Don't blame him for moving on, just wish he could've waited a year.

Plus, recruitment.
Game changes quickly and we now suddenly seem so physically slow and weak right through the middle of the team compared to some of our rivals. I didn't see it coming and was happy with Gundogan & Fern renewals and Rodri signing...
Laporte also seems slow turning with balls over the top, maybe still struggling, I thought he was quicker and sharper than this last year?

your asking players to do things they don't or can't do.

Gundo, Rodders and Fern are not mobile, they are incapable of covering the pitch, they don't have pace.

Did you watch the Norwich away game start of the season? same scenario, the greatest coach in the world out thought by carrot crunchers.

I am angry, I am angry that a man we pay 15 million of the queens finest has fucked up, with one of the worlds finest squads of players against a very average French side.

No problems, it just seemed a very strange comment but that explains it.

I completely agree in terms of our midfield being dull and slow, it goes back to the combination of players yet again (2 or more of Gundogan, Rodri, Silva, Fernandinho, Mendy, Aguero and Mahrez) and you're starting off on the back foot for pace, intensity and aggression.

The biggest issue is width; we haven't got a natural winger who can get in behind teams and put in crosses, we just have forwards who cut in and shoot. That's for me why Sane has been a bigger miss than anyone, we've removed the "option" of pace and width.

The whole concept of our game is to make the pitch as big as possible in attack and as small as possible when defending. This season the lack of pace and width has stopped the attacking side of it, unfortunately that's been in combination with a lack of intensity and aggression in midfield which has stopped the defending side of it.

The signing of Torres will hopefully give us some pace and natural width. The midfield let's wait and see what the next three weeks hold. If Garcia is leaving and Stones is clearly no longer in favour, then we need another CB to compliment Laporte and Ake.

I genuinely don't understand yours or anyone's issue with Jesus, I think you're all fucking crackers. The lad is top class, different to Aguero but there's not another player on the planet who can do what Aguero does. It's a time to adapt and play to Jesus strengths.

I think you are spot on with most of that.

For me with the Stones bit it may be worth giving him a bit of time - we know thre is a top class centre half in there but there is a big question over his mental state/focus which i do get.

We do need an injection of dynamism into midfield - for whatever reason Pep seems to like Gundogan in there - I think he is wrong and in the end its all about opinions. Bernardo Silva's form has dropped off this year but again we know there is a potentially word class midfielder there - i do think we need an Auoar type of player. With Rodri, i expressed concerns about his signing but there are postiives and negatives to him but his lack of intensity is one of those negatives.

The ONLY issue I have with Jesus is his finishing of anything other than simple goals from inside 6-8 yds of goal - his work rate, link up play, intensity in his press are all world class but his finishing is significantly below that..for me his best position is supporting a much more clinical striker.

We are one of the biggest clubs in the world, we are not the Manchester City of the 80s and 90s.
Our owners have invested hundreds of millions into the club, they demand success and multiple trophies.
We have finished second in the title and a massive 16 points behind the winners, totally unacceptable for the club.
We have just lost against a reasonable but far inferior French team in the quarterFinals of the Champions League , again unacceptable.
I would think this morning our owner and Chairman are not happy people and want some serious answers from the people running the football side of the club.

Agree with some of your points but money doesnt guarantee success Barca spent nearly £400m last season and like us have underachieved , and you forgot losing to Arsenal in the FA Cup semi final.
Can't see Pep being put under pressure by Khaldoon or Txiki , more than likely if Pep is offered a new contract it would be on even better terms , where are we going to find a better manager than Pep Guardiola ?

Coulda woulda shoulda. He got it wrong because we got beat, can’t argue about that. He was well within his rights to pick the team he did for the reasons he did though and a couple of angry blues on the internet doesn’t change my opinion.
we all said when the team Came out it was a big mistake,no hindsight required ,he had five subs, how you can defend his over thinking and going defensive thus nullifying our key strengths is beyond me,they should have been scared to death of us not the other way around,he told the players to be afraid so they were

Asking Jesus and sterling to score sitters and Ederson to hold onto a ball isn’t asking too much. Asking for us to be reffed fairly isn’t asking too much or for VAR to do its job isn’t asking too much.
Blaming Pep for all our woes is an easy cop out. Time some of the players justified their places in the team.
