Lyon CL QF Post-Match Thread

Money does not but success for sure, it does not buy great CB or 50m LB or midfield players that can't run.

Money does buy the best coaches that can spot a player, improve them and fit them into a team.

We always try to buy the very best, pay top dollar, Jesus apart when was the last time we bought a rough diamond and polished them into a star?

beg to differ Keeper , we dont buy rough diamonds , we buy potential and Pep has improved for example Jesus , Bernardo , Sterling and more than doubled their value in the transfer market , none of these players were the very best when they arrived at the club , but they are now.

Ferguson - 2 Champions Leagues in 39 years (20-odd years at MU)
Liverpool - 2 CLs in the thick end of 30 attempts
Bayern - 2 CLs in total
Arsenal - zero

Forest had the genius that was Clough and Villa won it somehow.

Pep's won it twice in 12 years. He will win it again - of that there is no doubt. Lets just hope it's with us.

I’m not going to justify anything. I imagine he looked who was available and decided that Garcia, as a professional footballer would do the job asked and funnily enough, he did.
But what effect did it have in the dressing room? that's just as important.

What long term effect will it have on Bernardo? he is too good to be treated like he has.

Playing Garcia did prove Stones is finished with us.

You’ve no idea what he told the players. Stop talking rubbish. We were rightly cautious of Lyon because they are a good side. It’s fuck all to do with overthinking anything.
I think it was clear how he briefed the players and disagree, I believe Pep over thought this. I didn't recognise City last night and strongly believe that a more normal performance would have been enough. Lyon must be hardly able to believe the team we put out. When we reverted more to type in the second half there seemed to be only one winner

i worry about the affect it may have in Bernardo. He should rightly be fuming. he needs using in midfield this year and often. Let him hit his stride.

Berardo was 40m and an outstanding class player at Monaco, Sterling 45 m quality player at Liverpool.

He was paid 100m on full backs that can't defend and have contributed little.

Mate, footballers aren’t as insecure as fans and believe me, they wouldn’t have given his selection a second thought and they certainly wouldn’t be using the fact he’s leaving as a stick to beat him with.
They all know the score, they are professionals who move from club to club. It’s not as big a deal as some are making out.
Had we won then maybe García wouldn’t have started the next game because Pep might have swapped us around completely due to the opposition.
Bernardo has to work on his own game and justify a start because as much as I love him he’s not had a good season.

There are a few young LB around at the moment, rough, rough diamonds but could go on to be class acts, the young CB at Leipzig, again rough diamond.

I still cant believe that lineup and game management. Really really poor. pep needs someone to tell him he really Fucked up. I hope he realizes it himself and his interview was just a facade.

we could have won but we didn’t .misses were missed , var, but honestly that game should have been won from the beginning, pep completely handed the initiative to Lyon and we chased the game.

also against Real Madrid we did a high press and chasing Them down , against Lyon we were back to slow walk pass Crab football.
Imagine a high intensity, high press vs Madrid stealing the ball, creating havoc at the back... then vs Lyon we sit back?!?!?!
