Lyon CL QF Post-Match Thread

I know its only a game of football etc but im struggling to get over last night. Genius that Pep is when he gets it wrong its spectacular.

what niggles me though Is ive never felt he has the fans at heart. When we lost to united and couldve won the league i felt he didnt grasp what that wouldve meant to the fans.
Its just so disappointing.

pep is 10 times the manager but bobby will always be the man

10 times is pushing it. Done pretty well to have a worse season than Pellers last one too given the squad at his disposal. Would cut him some slack however for the utd game because you can’t legislate for the appalling misses by Sterling in that game. How he’s progressed since though hey!

I never thought we could win the champions league with this squad. Albeit a very good one, one of the best we struggle against the big clubs. Although we came 2nd in the league it was by a big margin losing a quarter of the matches. Pep got it wrong, we know it, he knows it. We should have let them worry about us not the reverse. Lyon must have been doing summersauts when the teams were announced. Fern, gund and Rodri in starting line up? Terrible game, the sterling miss, and the keepers mistake and of course VA fukin R!

Pellegrini last season was a CL semi, League Cup and a 4th place, this time is quiet similar minus the players bought by Guardiola

Pep played bayern in his head,he did not play Lyon ,if you see what I mean
I think he played himself, the guy think far too much, his greatest weakness.

Football is simple, we had the better players, and he messed up badly.

We lost because of individual errors . Pep didn’t make those errors but picked the team so it’s on him and he’s cool with that .
plenty of crap getting written but hindsight is a wonderful thing. If we’d have gone and played our usual attacking game and lost it would have been “ can’t play like that in Europe-when will He ever learn “ and “ you gotta be more solid in the champions league and so teams more respect “
Individual errors and VAR shafted us in my opinion and for what it’s worth Sterling was Man of the Match in my opinion even with the miss !

Make a good point with the hindsight, when we lost at Anfield in the champions league a few years ago in the first leg , everyone said we Should have been more solid , which was true .
But it’s peps jobs to find the balance between picking a team that’s too attack minded and exposed , or a team that’s too negative and defensive .
Could understand playing one of Gundogan/Fernandinho with Rodri for more protection but the 5 at the back was just awful .
Sent out a negative message to the players right from the start . We were too worried about Lyon rather than making them fear us .
No need to tinker that much with the team from. The one that beat real .

I thought the same thing. I think he’s done the cardinal sin of thinking beyond Lyon and set up in preparation of how he’d set up versus Bayern.
Never been so more frustrated than last nights system. Let them worry about us and just go and blitz them with a our energy and zip. With Sergio out he somehow leaves Bernardo, Mahrez, David Silva and Foden on the bench . Mind boggling !!! This defeat Is going to get some getting over.

Well I suppose it could be worse

Imagine the ramifications of that catastrophic defeat if we’d have also lost at CAS?!?!?

We lost the game when the team sheet was written.
We didn’t, you bouncing around every thread telling everyone how simple the game is doesn’t make it so.
It might be when you’re managing the Dog and Duck but this is the very highest level of the game where a bit more thought goes into it than ‘Playing your best players and win easily’ shite that’s repeated on here so often by the same posters.
Pep will have to accept his part in the defeat, as always happens to a manager when they lose. What he doesn’t have to do is apologise to the many armchair managers on here who demand to see the same players every game for 60 odd games a season because on paper they are ‘The best’

Pretty much would for word my thoughts on the match!

It doesn't feel like City have much of a fear factor at the moment. Sterling and KDB absolutely, but with Sergio injured and Mahrez and Foden on the bench there wasn't a lot for Lyon to be worried about. Hopefully that changes with some good business in the transfer window.
