Macclesfield

They have made a great job of restoring it and it is once again a lovely pub
Yes it’s a brilliant pub again, best in macc. Picturedrome, Five clouds tap and bottle bar, The fountain, Red willow, snow goose all with a visit. All things nice is good for food, a new Pizza place open near the Picturedrome too is worth a visit.

Macc is under rated. If I was a first time buyer then I would give Macc some serious thought.

Plenty of Terrace houses in walking distance to the centre which are a lot cheaper than houses/terraces in Manchester.

Fast commuter trains to Manc / Stockport.

Peak District on your doorstep.

I’ve lived here more or less 40 years since making the move from Burnage. It is as you say ideally placed. Only an hour’s drive from City, half an hour or less on the train to Manchester and right on the doorstep of some wonderful scenery. As a bonus one of the country’s most dangerous roads comes from Macc to Buxton

Parking is a fucking nightmare though whenever I had worked there. Only thing that lets it down, nice place Macc.

We did exactly this, albeit renting rather than our first purchase, and never regretted it. Although we did move closer to Manchester again to be closer to family and friends after a few years, we have plans to move back out that way once the kids leave the nest.

Spent many a night in the nags head listening to the cover bands, and the goose green in over the road did a nice pint with a few guest beers at a time.

There's some trendier ale bars opened since we left down towards Sunderland street I believe, and of course theres a good few breweries in the area including red willow and the excellent storm brewery within staggering distance of the high street. Wincle brewery too if you drive five minutes out of Macc.

We do still go back for the odd treacle market but do find that unless you're very early or very late then the parking is iffy.
