Maggie Thatcher

Grantham is in the Midlands. Spent some time there in the 90's; pretty dull place. As a useless bit of trivia many of the pubs have the prefix 'Blue': Blue Dog, Blue Pig, Blue Man etc.. which were renamed by the local landowner, The Earl of Tollemache iirc, in the 19th century, to reflect his political leanings.

<a class="postlink" href="http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_houses_and_inns_in_Grantham" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_h ... n_Grantham</a>

Edit: it was the Duke of Rutland, not the Earl of Tollemache.

Now we have established that Grantham is in the East Midlands, can someone explain why Mrs Thatcher didn't refer to people as "me duck".

I expect she may well have done; before she went to Oxford :-)

It seems Thatcher's Dad was an alleged Paedo.

"Us and them" sufficed.

That article is nearly old enough to vote in the forthcoming General Election.

Hope it votes Labour.

Name a Tory that has been good for the country?
Winston Churchill?
He wasn't that much of a Tory he sat for over two decades as a liberal mp, nearly left again in the 30's and he was certainly no dyed in the wool like Madge!
I see you ignored your own bollocks about "a hospital ship" didn't you.

Didn't even hold your hands up and say "yeah sorry I was talking bollocks as per"

It is very tempting to over egg puddings when consumed with a desire to disparage.

It is very easy to get fired up with winding up right wingers when they are on a rabid frenzy with exaggerations. Yes it was a military ship that had been involved earlier in an attempted pincer manouver but at the time it was shot it was out of manoeuvres, out of the exclusion zone, sailing away from targets and was not a threat,l or engaged. it was mainly conscripts on board and 300 people did die but the hospital part is an exaggeration it also served quite possibly to prolong the war as after this the Junta rejected South american peace plans for some time.

Most reasonable people know some of the things she did were necessary but she did do more damage to Britain and its long term standing than any other leader we have had. Unfortunately the damage is done and will be being paid for for the next 50 years!

More utter bollox - I love Maggie - in fact I have a picture of her up in my hall just to wind my Dad up - he is a militant like you.
