Maicon

Football Italia claims that the former Seleção full-back is set to arrive in Rome on Monday ahead of signing a new contract with the Giallorossi.

The transfer is thought to cost €5 million and Maicon will gain more playing minutes than at Manchester City.

Maicon had been frozen out of the Citizens side under Roberto Mancini as Argentinean Pablo Zabaleta was preferred in the right-back slot.

The Brazilian should be confirmed as a Roma player by the end of the week as Roma look to overhaul their squad

Great news.

If he has gone then good luck to him.
Shame it didn't work out here, I still think a season with no injuries and a run in the team would have been to our benefit but perhaps he asked to leave.

Cheers Doug!

I read the original report and the 5 million euros seems to be his wages (which he may have to take a reduction of), not the fee. It'll be a loan or free transfer I think.

Just in the Mail:

"Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Brazilian defender Maicon is to leave the club this summer."

No quotes, though. Has he actually said anything about Maicon?

Just seen that mate, breaking news on the Mail site. Must have said
it in the post match interview.

Taxi for Maicon! City will offload £100,000-a-week defender as clear-out continues

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Brazilian defender Maicon is to leave the club this summer.
The right-back arrived from Inter Milan last summer for £3million with a glowing reputation, but now finds himself third in the pecking order at the club behind Pablo Zabaleta's and Micah Richards.
The 31-year-old is reportedly on £100,000-a-week, with Pellegrini already offloading several other high earners at the Etihad.
Maicon has never really recovered from the humiliating evening against Gareth Bale in 2010.
Bale scored a hat-trick against in the Champions League up against Maicon at the San Siro, before inspiring Spurs to a 3-1 win over the Italian giants two weeks later at White Hart Lane.
City have also let go of Carlos Tevez, Kolo Toure, Wayne Bridge and Roque Santa Cruz this summer, and Pellegrini may look to offload a few more big earners before the transfer window closes.
