Main Rivals - Chelsea or United?

Both teams need to spend big time to compete next year, whoever has the funds and is willing to spend and spend wisely (Torres) will be our rivals. I can't see where United are going to get the sort of money that quality players will demand. I predict that this is the beginning of a City dynasty, as do most of the pundits. To compete in todays market each team needs a £100,000,000 boost, at least. Abramhovic as achieved his ambition, and the Rags owners will rely on Slur Alex and Shrek pulling something out of the bag.

United obviously, but I tell you this, Chelsea's result last night was far far worse for them than it was for us. The last thing they needed was another club with the spending power of us in the Champions League.

Now that we are Champions, our ambition must be retain it, not just to finish above Utd.

CFC have been kept alive in the Cups by Drogba. Now they need to replace half a team, and possibly a manager, but they can do that.

Utd are in transition, and they have a manager who is beginning to look like a lame duck who by his own admission has 1-2 seasons left. I think they are on the decline. They need at least one world class midfielder and forward

They are both rivals for the moment any way.

Winning the FA Cup wins you about £5m, finishing fifth earns you about £7m and winning the European Cup wins you about £35m. They've also won a lot of trophies in recent years too (Prem title is about £20m prize money). This is without any profits the club makes in tickets and merchandise.

Chelsea will be able to spend well this Summer.
Swiss ramble says Chelsea earnt £27M from the CL last year and winning it gives £33M this year, a £6M difference. The FA cup is worth next to nothing £5M. They made an £80M loss last season (without factoring in the Luiz and Torres transfers (£80m) and need to replace half of their first team.

I don't think "spend well" is quite the right term if they wish to go anywhere near FFP break even.
You don't need to break even with FFPR. That is not one of the rules. It merely states that you must have things in place to be working towards making money. We had over £100m losses last season and we'll still spend this Summer.
That's wasn't my point. I should have been more clear, I was pointing out that their cup runs will not have increased their turnover by more than about £11m this year compared with last season whilst their expenses went up by a greater amount. Thus making your point about how much extra revenue they'd earnt somewhat moot.

Your probably right about the effect on the turnover, and they will have to pay out bonuses etc, but they are back in the Champions League again, and they will have the prestige for players, and they will be able to rake in a lot of money in the future from sponsorships. Countries will pay big monies to invite the European Champions to their pre-season tournaments etc. Opens up so much.

The scum all day long. We finish above them we've won the league. Chelsea can't say that.

Anybody who thinks the rags are now on the decline needs to bear in mind that we won the league on goal difference.

Domestic rivals: United, Chelsea

European rivals: we still haven't proved ourselves to be genuine contenders on this stage.
