My 1st visit to Main Road in 1960 with my Uncle who took me to my 1st City game and my last visit in 2003 against Southampton brought many different feelings form jubilation to dispair but memories which I and thousands off other City fans will never forget.

this song sums it all up..

Jesus............................ it's as if it wasn't even there to begin with.

8 years on and still hard to take I remember the last day vs Southampton lost 1-0 but everyone wasn't even arsed about the result or game so many tears and memories that day.

I remember when they did a special on ITV I was about 14/15 and remember just sat in my room in tears, I remember people saying I was a sad wet arse being reminded that it was only a football stadium......

I think most can agree that it was much more then just a stadium.
it contained the memories, thoughts and emotions of so many people, some still here and some not
'just a stadium' can't do that

exactly mate, its not just about the stadium but about the history that was created within it, the good times and the bad.

I don't know if many people would agree with me here but I'd happily City gave up the FA Cup just for one more season at Maine Road.
i know exactly what you're saying

yesterday i was clearing away some old junk and found some VHS videos
i dug up the old video player and watched through them and cam across the city 5 scum 1 game
seeing the packed kippax again and fans hanging from all sorts in the north stand was heartbreaking

but that fa cup win for our younger fans meant a lot more than we can comprehend
i often talk about the passion for city my eldest daughter has but, for the first time, my other daughter has become well and truly hooked
she wanted to go to the parade, she wanted to go to bolton and spend the day on the lash with us and yesterday she spent the whole day on facebook gobbing off to plastics who were having a go at city's parade
i can't believe how much that fa cup has meant to them, for me it was a meh as i really enjoyed beating scum four weeks before, but for them it was everything
they partied all night in london after the win and then i took them home while they slept

for them, and them alone, i wouldn't swap
we had our time, now let's enjoy theirs together

Love this song - got the CD when it came out...

Last time I was near Maine Road I noticed that a lot of the new roads and the school had appropriate City related names - can't remember what the were though (and I don't mean Kippax St etc)...

I shed a few tears that day.

So many happy memories.

Yep, too true. It was for many of us the first football ground we went to and much, much more. I was in love from the first day on and for me nothing can ever come close to experience of being at Maine Road on match day.

I am 53 years old so I can remember the halycon days of fab 3 (Bell, Lee & Summerbee) et.al However, lets make sure we do not allow time cloud our judgement...

Maine Road was a dump! I'm sorry but it was in every respect. The place, the structure, the catering (Oh Jesus!), the parking not to mention the majority of the football for the last 30+ years - the lot! Unless you are at least as old as me you cannot remember any 'good times' at all apart from the promotion day against Charlton (5-1 if my memory serves me right), the famous 10-1 and the legendary 5-1 against the rags. Gents, thats about it! Apart from a couple of relegations along the way.
The stadium we have now is truly fantastic in comparison in every way.
I did cry the day we left Maine Road - with happiness!
Nostalgia - its not what it used to be...

It is very sad that there is nothing left to show City's existence there.
Found it particularly bad driving down Lloyd Street South just after it closed and seeing boards round the ground.

whilst i agree with your sentiments....you talk about not many "good times"

when i first started going to maine road, i didnt care about the league or the cup run or our current form....all i cared about as a kid and teenager was seeing city play....those were the good times for me

as i got older, granted, the importance of the games crept into my mindset and took some of the childish enjoyment away, but the good times for me were games against newcastle when we come from 1-0 down to win 2-1, and many other mediocre wins/draws.

these were my good times
