Maine Road (now) photos

I find the photos quite sad. I used to work round there and of course went every match so it is/was very special and since we left I find it hard to re-visit. Now I see that 8 years later it is still unfinsihed, what has been done looks very very average and our roots, our heritage well they are nothing. (very big sigh) If Soulboy sees this he will be manic.

Those pictures just don't seem right to me. I was only 11 when we moved to COMS but I remember Maine Road vividly. Wish I could've gone to more games when I was younger.

My auntie's the headteacher of the school built on the site now, and was deputy at St Edwards next to the stadium. Used to get a few tickets out of it :P

had to go round them new houses reading meters, about9 months ago, never thought i would see the day,
my last memory of maine road was the last day against saints , went to pick my son up after the match at about mid night, he had been to an end of the era staff party in the kippax. When i met him he was worse for drink, but we walked the full length of the pitch up to the north stand, i found a green seat from the gene kelly stand which i still have in my shed.
so many memories to list.

Very sad. I loved Maine Road. I've been to a lot more games at Eastlands than at Maine Road but Maine Road still feels more like home. I don't think it's possible for a new ground to have the same character as an old ground but in the case of ours it's just night and day. Maine Road, a stadium in the middle of terraced housing, the back alleys and cobbled streets, the pubs, Moss Side kids coming up to you and getting a couple of quid NOT to wreck your car, it was part of the community. Compared to Eastlands which just sits on its own with expanses of space around it and the people who want your car parking money wear florescent jackets, and where is Mr Banks and why isn't the end nigh?

Just makes me so glad we moved when we did. Can you imagine the Sheik buying us and getting the players we now have if we'd still been there....? No, I didn't think so.

Like I've said before it was time to put the cushion over Maine Road's face once the old Kippax had been demolished.

I really don't miss it at all. Great, great memories, but it would be shit if we were still there now.

I know what you're getting at. Let's be honest; the stadium was a mess; 4 different stands, none of them matching. It was well by it's sell-by date. Still miss it though!

Some good memories, and bad ones. I will never forget parking up off Claremont Rd, and then walking down Platt Lane past the training ground and up to Yew Tree Rd, and then the Kippax car park.

Huge highs and lows as a kid, though City were mostly rubbish. Most of the time it was listening to City through GMR and waiting for the goal jingles. They had one for a goal for a local team, and another for a goal against a local team. And then the Pink in the evening.

The weekend started with a chippy tea and Kick Off on Friday evening, then Football Focus and if I was lucky Dad would take me to the game.

now I take him - sometimes. The magic feeling of going through the turnstile and then seeing that green pitch when you got into the ground will never ever leave me.

Hooked for life. Once I thought it was a curse, but now it was all worthwile. Waited so long to see City win at Wembley and sing Abide with Me. Abide with me was a bit of a let down and it hasn't really sunk in.

A little bit of me wonders whether it will be the same again. Nothing can ever match a trophy after 35 years surely?
