Maine Road redevelopment

To be honest I think the lack of development opportunities around mosside would have been a complete deal breaker. Eastlands was quite literally a blank canvas
Wouldn't Moss Side also have allowed for development. The concert venue is one thing that probably wouldn't happen in Moss Side but trainiing ground, housing development could have happened?

Most of us miss it terribly. It was home. But that era has gone, and it's time to let go. And let's be honest; at the end, it was an eyesore. 4 non matching stands, small capacity. And, like the Empti, our current stadium, it was a pain to get away from. Plenty of pubs within staggering distance, mind. And chippys.
Loved the Maine Road I first went to in the 70's. What we left behind was a laughable dump. I know I'm in the minority but the only thing I miss are the pubs around the ground.

Sometimes Swales didn't let the ground staff switch it on because it was too expensive to run. And he knew the attendance would be down on a freezing cold day

The only home game though I can remember getting canceled back then was Ipswich when the pitch turned into a swimming pool during the match

great post matey

i love both city now and back then and the memories of Maine Road should never be forgot
like your dad and many more dads and mums there ashes are imbedded in the ground forever more

yes we have to move on and we are so much better off with great owners and silverware dripping from the rafters
but i don't think i will ever move on and leave that little bit of the old manchester city maine road behind
Great post.

I‘d go further than that, mate. I reckon City were the only club to have undersoil heating at Maine Road.

am not 100% on that ? i thought it was everton was the first club to install it ?

just checked it was everton back in 1958 hahahhahaha

You wrote that we were one of the first clubs to have undersoil heating at Maine Road.

No one else has a ground called that, so we will have been the only club to have undersoil heating at a ground called Maine Road.

;-)
