Man City vs Reading - Post Match Discussion

Wasn't the best game to watch but we got the three points which were vital. It's good to grind out results in games like this to keep us challenging at the top.

There was a guy sat a few seats from me who muttered "I'm bored watching this" in the second half, which made me smile thinking back to some of the shit games under people like Pearce. We've come a long way.

On another note, that must be one of the worst turn outs of away fans I've seen since we moved to the new stadium. How many did they bring with them, about 300?

They probably thought with the way the defense played against arsenal no point going up in all that rain to see them thrashed. In the end those that did turn up probably saw one of their most exciting games they've been to this season albeit a nail biting one. Credit Reading they didn't have a choice but to defend against us because if they opened up we may well have gone and thrashed them. Heard some bitter old city fan on 606 moaning that they deserved to lose if they came with that sort of game plan. Fact is they did have the occasional attack and but for a bit of accuracy their defender Pearce could've had a couple of goals. Possession and domination wise we deserved it but they will feel really unlucky no to come away with something.

A 4 year old kid could pick a better team than Mancini. Why Garcia if Barry is back? Why piss about with the left back position so much? Was Milner fit to play the 90 minutes, and if so why wasn't he in? Far too narrow all the time, so easy to defend against. Mancini needs to show us what else he can do because our style of over playing time and again has been well and truly sussed out now.

We have some seriously uneducated fans, why play this tippy tappy football, its too pedestrian etc etc

I'm sorry, but if you have a team like Reading who sit 9 players literally sitting back across the 18yard line, that is the type of game you are going to get.

It can't possibly be a quick tempo passing game when the opposition are literally sat like an impenetrable wall.

Going out wide with our players and crossing the ball wont help with our players it would simply continually get cleared.

For me the main thing missing yesterday was being clinical with the final ball or shot. Had we got the goal it would have been a different game.

What we did show was real character and for me that was pleasing to see, the fans panicking and getting on the players backs at times wasn't

Even the best teams in the world can get done by this tactic (Barca v chelsea at Nou camp CL last season)...

If you sling in high balls yes, Aguero and Tevez won't win many headers.

Quite apart from the fact that we had Dzeko on for the last 30 minutes, though, or the fact that the winning goal came from a header, what is being discussed is daisy cutters hit low across a defence retreating towards its own goal.

Really

The facts are there guys 74% of of play not one offside, if reading had been any deeper in their own half they would been sat on ashton market.

Nobody expected Reading to win , probably themselves least of all .... they would have been absolutely delighted with the draw , no doubt whatsoever about that.

And to be fair they did the best they could , worked their socks off , and until Barry struck , had defended brilliantly ...... in fact i doubt whether we'll see any other side defend that well at the Etihad all season !

Rubbish. We need to vary our game or the defenders become comfortable. The ball needs to be fired into the box occasionally to get defenders turning and facing the goal. This will cause chaos and confusion, otherwise its just one-dimensional. we got away with it yesterday - and how did the goal come? from a ball chucked into the box by Silva, who hardly ever crosses the ball.

Dzeko and Sinclair should of started for me...
We lacked pace to get behind them, and a big fella in the box.
Look at what Arsenal done to them Monday! You would of thought it would of been obvious to Mancini.

It was, Reading can attack but not defend hence their terrible performances all season, except yesterday they changed their style of play, to park the bus, we were set up to play the normal Reading team not the 11 men behind the ball team playing their cup final

There was no 'behind them' yesterday to get to.

You would have thought that would have been obvious to everyone who watched it.

After Arsenal, they were exactly the tactics i,and many others, was expecting,i'd have thought Mancini may have predicted similar......
