This wasn't just some random lone smackhead chancing their arm in the early hours of the morning and meeting their demise.
The whole chain of events suggests some kind of crime or drugs ring, and I would guess potentially a lot of history (quick edit to say it's been reported that the defendant called the burglar by his first name before killing him....)
It'll all come out in the wash, hopefully.
