Manchester’s Changing Skyline

I completely agree that the retail park has had its day and last time i visited it, there were more empty units than occupied and it was very dated

jrb - is there really the need/market for more apartment blocks in town? I remember someone telling me years ago (and I've no idea if it was true or not) that there was a fair % of apartments just sat empty, and since then there must be hundreds more blocks built.

Not true / waiting lists on most schemes

Interesting one this.

Looks like the redevelopment of the Rylands building (old Debenhams) is about to start. See info about it below via the link.

Quick trip down to Rylands this morning to get some pre construction photos of the building.

It’ll be great to look back at the transformation once the build is complete.

Cracking building but totally wasted as a department store. Unless there have been others since, i understand it will create one of the largest office buildings in town.

More good jobs coming to the city centre.

The Starling challenger bank is understood to be close to agreeing a deal to open its first office in the city at Barings’ Landmark off St Peter’s Square.

If terms are agreed at Barings’ 180,000 sq ft Landmark, Starling would join a growing roster of high-profile tenants.

At the time, founder and chief executive Anne Boden said there was “never any doubt that Manchester would house [the company’s] first step into the North”.

Bring back The Odeon

All of us on here have an affinity with Manchester, obviously through the club. regardless if you are from the Manc area or not, the renaissance of the city is a joy to behold.

Quite a lot of construction activity in Leeds. Very evident on the Leeds skyline as you drive into the city from the motorway.

The view outside my hotel room this morning.

Not reading 63 pages so no sure if said already.
Driving down Rochdale Road from the Victoria Ave junction. It’s all down hill and the city centre is dead centre to the road on the horizon. It’s amazing the transformation.
