some years ago in 1862 a huge, three-storey, palazzo style building was constructed in one of Manchester's busiest thoroughfares, which today stands as one of the city's most impressive Grade II listed Victorian buildings. It was the Manchester and Salford Bank, featuring four bays, slate roofing, an impressive double-height banking hall with columns and a coffered ceiling.
World War I brought about a significant decline in the cotton trade upon which much of Lancashire’s economy depended, posing significant problems for the then owner, and so in 1931 the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) acquired the bank, occupying it until late 2020...
We spotted the potential of the building and purchased it back in 2005, then began drawing up plans in 2020 once RBS vacated. We're now investing money back into this former bank... and transforming it into Manchester's latest cutting edge workspace.
In true Bruntwood style, we plan to combine the building's beautiful heritage features with futuristic design to create something truly unique - complete with new workspace, a restaurant/bar and gym studio.
