Manchester - A city built by immigrants.

My gran was born before the first world war though, and my mum was born before the second. I couldn't imagine living through two world wars. What a time she lived in.

Hah, I'm younger then you (a fair bit I think) and my Nan lived through WW1 and the Irish war of independence. :) She's the pride of the family :)

My mum's maiden name is Brunyee which originally - a few generations before - was de Brunyee from the Belguim / Flemish weavers who moved to Manchester.... The ''de'' was dropped to Anglicise the name.... I wonder if originally it was ''de Bruyne''..... I can only day dream ;)

I think there is a little confusion between immigration and invasion here. Plus a bit of confusion about when states were created and therefore immigration could actually happen rather than the more nomadic population movements. I would also question anyone who claims we had migrants from states which didn't exist and wouldn't for half a millennium or more.

It's fine to be pro migration, I'm an economic migrant myself. But don't make shit up to try and make a case.
