Manchester City vs Liverpool pre-match thread

Hey guys new to the board but ive been following City for a while now , upon reading though some posts im actually a bit suprised , you guys really think Pelli will go away from the formula that has given him 6 good results in a row and start Aguero up top alone? I personally have always felt Kun plays better next to a supporting striker as it frees space for him to roam and he can take on players while the other striker gets some attention , with this I think there are only 3 lineups Pelli has in mind and im relatively sure he will start with either m the same lineup from last game , a lineup with Dzeko and Aguero up top , or a Lineup with Javi Garcia back with Fernan which pushes Yaya further forward with Silva and Navas/Nasri , im interested to see if he goes with Kolarov , but I think the key to this match will be less the city offense and more the defense who will have to contain Liverpool's strike force, I think it can be done , I am predicting 3-0 City with goals from Yaya , and a brace from Dzeko ( who is a big game player for both City and the Bosnian NT )

Clattenberg is ref.

Great news he doesn't get intimidated by crowds and for me is the best of a bad bunch

i think its an ok appt too - he took dogs abuse for giving them 3 pens at ot, even though they could have had more, so might think twice before giving them others
Is it absolutely confirmed that Clattenburg has the gig? I was told earlier today it was Martin Atkinson....

Link to confirmation?

Cheers

f we play a high line with Vinny making tackles on the half way line as he tends to, Gerard will murder us with balls over the top to Sterling or Sturridge both of who have real pace and will cause MDM and Zabba no end of problems.

This is exactly how I remember the home game. One ball did us time and time again and we were lucky to win that game, IMHO.

Flood the midfield, defend deep, play fast on the counter

see I was thinking jovetic as he has a tendency to force the play with quick give and goes and I feel that is often needed as we often sit back and stagnate plus he'll be full of confidence after his goal and out to prove he's got what it takes whenever he's been on the pitch he's looked most likely to make something happen (take palace for example before he got injured) I think any of the three could have a field day against flannagan

My nervousness with Jovetic is that he is very attacking and direct, trying all sorts of flicks and attempted quick 1-2's, which is great but this comes at a cost which is he is inclined to give the ball away. If (when) he does that with our whole team camped outside their box, we can be in trouble. Oftentimes we have Zabba sitting as our last defender and a long ball to Sturridge and we are conceding, and/or Zabba (or MDM) is off.

For this reason, I'd save Jovetic for later on if we are a goal or two down and it's caution to the wind. Or if we are 3-0 up and going for glory.

Cant remember the last time we played well there must have been the 2-2 in the 2009 - 2010 season.

Last 4 games

2010 - 2011 - got battered 3-0
2011 - 2012 - started well but Liverpool dominated the second half and Hart kept us in the game. They also dominated the league cup semi final.
2012 - 2013 - Again they were the better side but skrtel mistake got us a point.

Never confident when go to liverpool or everton. Hopefully west ham will do us a favour today or we can scrape a point.
Sorry completely forgot the 3-0. We did get battered you're right. Carroll played a blinder. Kompany couldn't handle him. (let's hope for more of the same from Carroll today!)

I remember coming away from Anfield being seriously worried about playing the rags that weekend. All's well that ends well :-)

After the 3-0 defeat Mancini said "certain events would never happen again at Manchester City". He was referring to the fact that the game had been played after the Grand National where MCFC had a courtesy tent. Players were present, and left at the end of the day worse for wear. A benchmark moment in our rise to the top.

Noting to do with our players not wanting to get injured for the rags FA cup semi final the following weekend then?

We have to watch our left side as no doubt Rodgers will look to destroy us down that side, neither Kolarov and Clichy have been great defensively this season and Demichelis does have an error in him so we do have to be careful here.

I would still play Kolarov, we need his crossing as an extra form of attack as I think Rodgers will look to go with a diamond in midfield to combat us playing through the middle, so for me Kolarov has to start.

Just fucking attack and attack and attack, get on the front foot from the first whistle, go for the jugular and make them shit their pants, nobody has battered them yet so let us be the 1st to do it, they looked like rabbits in the headlights at west ham and it took 2 pens to sort them out, they didn't play that good on sunday, they're feeling the heat......
