^^^^^ Aye, I've said it before in this thread. City Women need to play on the same match day as City men. And, have the season run over the same months as men's football. People do not simply have time and money to go on seperate days.

Does anyone know if there is a reason why it is not already done like this? It makes no sense to me.

I do not think the FA would change the dates that the season runs for the Women's fixtures. All of the womens clubs would need to agree for that to happen and maybe even Ueafa ?. Maybe the original idea was that summer months, better weather, better football perhaps on better pitches, and maybe people more inclined to think " Ah, maybe I will go along and watch a womens games whilst its the off season for the mens game"

Even so, due to the months when the 2 seasons coincide they could still run offers as I have suggested to see if if would help improve attendances and promote more interest in the womens game. There is the perfect opportunity now for this with the new "Minihad " nearly ready. Surely the club should try this next season for MCFC women, maybe even the final home game for the women this season if ready in time ?

I think you're right. But, I can't see how they (all women teams) are going to attract the core set of fans as a mass who will support their club male and female. When the men's season is over, I welcome the break. I crave the season to start again after month, but the close season gives me an opportunity to do other things.

In my view, it makes good business sense to have the Women's match first then fans stay and have some food and drink supplied by City if they've got a ticket for the mens match and provide offers like you say.

Perhaps that's the problem, we're lucky that we have a pitch next to the main ground, whereas other clubs do not. And, so clubs do not want things like the pitch being cut up before the men's match, and having to pay stewards to clear out the fans from the ground who only had tickets for the women's match. That said, if the women's match took place after the men's match these two issues wouldn't be so much of a problem. Granted, perhaps not as many fans would stay on to watch a second match later in the day, but I think it would be more than it would be on seperate days.

Even with other clubs not having a pitch very close to the ground for the women to use , as City have that, or will soon, we should still take advantage of that and simply try next season putting on a couple of games at the "Minihad" in the late spring that are just before the men kick of their match and then another couple of games similarly in Aug\Sept with some offers as suggested as an incentive.

Yep I totally agree. From what I've seen other clubs with womens teams aren't happy with what City have done so far, but someone needs to push the sport forward and City seem to be the only ones doing it. I doubt anyone will be complaining if it gets to the stage where TV companies begin to fund the sport through rights to broadcast.

Whats the payout for winning the Continetal Cup. Come on Toni get us a victory in the cup and bring it home to the Eithad . Glad to see a team in womens soccer breaking through and trying to get recognition from a male dominated sport

Well done MCFC Women 3-0 away win at Everton yesterday.

Looking at attendances last season for Womens football in the top flight Arsenal ladies have the highest av. attendance at around 1,400 and then Liverpool ladies were at about just below 700 and then down to Chelsea and Lincoln Ladies at ~ 300

City Women average about 700-800 I think. Thus OK for the first full year in the top flight, but again with what has been discussed about scheduling and offers etc no reason why this could not get to say 2,000 at least with the "Minihad" holding ~ 7,000 I believe.

I was going to try to go the Conti Cup final to watch the girls.

But its been scheduled for Thursday night 16th Oct at 7-45pm in Wycombe!!

Forgive me if this question has been asked previously - But why is City the only team called 'women' when every other team in the league (2 divisions)
are called 'ladies' ?.
Does 'Women' sound tough - rather than gentile.

As I understand it, that's the name the majority involved wanted to be know as. My guess, quickly after they made that decision, they got on with playing football.

The theory is that calling a team "Ladies" is patronising and sexist, in that it conveys the impression that all women are supposed to uphold themselves like a character from a Jane Austen novel, almost in a way that is supposed to subconsciously make them question whether playing football is something a "lady" should do. Supposedly womens' teams were called "Women" back a generation or two ago, but the FA encouraged a switch to "Ladies" as part of their attempts at gently shouldering women out of the game back several decades ago. Whether you believe any of that or not is up to you; I'm not entirely convinced.

The other idea is just it's a rebranding exercise aimed at making MCWFC something new in order to erase their history of being nothing special and to give them something with pizazz to launch and market for their first season in the WSL.

Not sure it makes a great deal of difference Man City Women FC (since Jan 2014) or Man City Ladies FC (since 1988), name changed slightly just to coincide with the new investment the club is putting into the team when officially announced in Jan of this year. I suppose it signifies the point of significant change that's all.
