Manchester Evening News

They are only little things but highlight how out of touch and poorly informed the Evening News is. Under the headline who will be top scorer in Manchester it suggests Navas 'is expected to be heavily amongst the goals this season' and potentially rival the likes of RVP and Aguero as the highest scorer within the two clubs. With the best will in the world, it is a ridiculous claim in relation to a player who never managed a goal last season.

Furthermore, there is a section on rate the players with an icon showing a half City and United shirt. A look, which would not be appreciated by any City or United fan that I would suggest, is the section of the readership they are attempting to appeal too.

Seems a long time since they produced a quality paper like the pink with informative articles. Anyway Rant over but it does really grate how they write about football and City in particular.

Once upon a time, in the days of the Evening News and the Evening Chron, the Football Pink and the Football Green, there would have been team dedicated reporters. Now I think we have reporters who are horse racing specialists who have to write up a football article!!

It must be quite a difficult job being a rag and writing pro-City stuff, which Stuart Brennan manages to do on a regular basis. Also impressed with Stuarts forays on here defending himself and the paper, which he really doesn't need to do but fair play to him for doing it.

We had someone at the door a few weeks ago from MEN explaining how it is being revamped and offering a delivery service at a reasonable price. He did mention though they might be bringing back the Pink. I'm not hugely interested in the MEN but do glance through it online every now and then, so declined the offer.

Would love a sat evening pink final again, they ballsed it up when they moved to sunday mornings.

No one is saying Carlos Tevez driving while disqualified is not news worthy, it's just not the first 3 full pages of the newspaper news worthy.

Also for the evening news to write an editorial claiming City showed lack of class over a light hearted poster in my opinion showed their true colours, they were actually taking sides because the almighty fergie wasn't happy.

Take their reporting on the parades for both City and united in 2011, a classic thread on here of course. Everyone could clearly see that the numbers at the united parade were embarrassing but if I am not mistaken did the muen not report a figure in the region of 200,000? The paper never once mentioned what was clearly a very disappointing turnout. It's not that the numbers at parades are of vital importance, it's just that they never even touched on it because it would of been a negative about united, and that's not aloud?

I have been buying the evening news for over 30 years and I still buy and it just seems to me in recent years there has been a more positive approach to all things united where as for City they like to highlight any negatives, it's like the newpaper has become united centric.

Well the new season is now nearly here so lets give the evening news the benefit of doubt? Myself and many others will be observing how our club is reported on by the Manchester Evening News.

I used to get the MUEN and developed a sense that MANUre articles seemed to occupy the back page more than MCFC articles did, so I set about compiling some empirical evidence (I only get out to home matches!) I measured all the column inches on the back page from September to December and found that MANUre totalled 61% of the back page compared to 39% for us. I thought it was clear evidence that 69-31 was what the MUEN understood as 'reporting balance'!

Just for the record, Peter Gardner was a rag who reported the City matches. Quite often he found it difficult to give us much credit for anything.

Well one thing is for sure ....... whoever is top scorer in Manchester football next season , it certainly won't be Navas !

Tonight's muen,

Back page

FIT FOR PURPOSE (FIT in red). Vidic and Gerrard back Rooney to roar.

Next 2 pages.

READY TO ROOMBLE (ROO in red). Andy Ritchie and Garry Birtles on why Rooney should by (they mean be) thrown right in it for the Reds.

Now if i am not mistaken don't half united's fans hate Rooney, and the other half just tolerate him. Doesn't Rooney want to leave, and doesn't want to play for United, in particular Moyes. Has this not been a totally negative episode during the pre season for United, and yet here comes Stuart Mathieson on his white horse to woo Roo with these positive headlines in the muen. It's nauseating.

Next 2 pages

Barry has wait on his shoulders ( in big bold black letters) Blah Blah bloody Blah.

Next 2 pages.

Phil fires a Hart salvo (Phil Jones). "He's fine", said phil, "There were bodies in front of him so I wouldn't punish him too much for that".
"He's massive (yawn). Joe Hart is a top lad and a great player as well".

You should read the rest of the shit written in this article before the words of wisdom from Stanley.

This is the Friday before the new season is about to start and already the muen is blowing the rag trumpet.

The MEN know their market how many blues on here say quite rightly never buy it just a biased rag

sort of answers the question why it's so pro MU

the real question is why do posters on here still have an expectation that there will be a balanced account of the city's two teams when the superior ones' fans don't buy the paper! better answers on a postcard to....
winner gets £5 to spend @ the BT openworld cable broadband city emirates sq jamie pasty shop
