24 hours on and still no apology from the MEN or (as earlier posters have stated - I haven't clicked on the link since the story broke) taken the offending article down.

I have a lot of time for Stuart Brennan and appreciate him coming on here and trying to defuse the situation but he hasn't gone as far as apologising on behalf of the MEN for the inflammatory pack of lies churned out by Lynch and - incredibly - passed as a suitable article to post on the website by more senior staff. Why doesn't the editor of the MEN have the cojones to hold his hand up, admit it was a dreadful and insulting piece against the premier football club in the paper's circulation area, disown the article, take it down from the MEN website and apologise?

It could be that Stuart's paymasters have instructed him to make no apology, clearly the powers that be have no intention of apologising as in their somewhat blinkered eyes they see no reason to. Should Stuart apologise it would seen under minding their authority.

Another trick the Mirror/MUEN has been playing of late. Especially when an article first appears in the Morming.

Click on the article, be it News, Sport, or Business, and the website takes you directly to an advert, and not the article. Do it again and the same thing happens. And again. F*** off!

Another reason not go bother with the MUEN. Directing readers straight to adverts, instead of the article.
pretty sure that's illegal. screenshots would be a good idea.

IMO,SB has had his say last night, which in certain quarters on here, wasn`t very well accepted. However if the Editor makes any attempt to come onto this forum, offering some form of explanation and apology, then it could slightly help their cause.
The old adage "after the horse has bolted ..." springs to mind".However an apology doesn`t appear to be forthcoming.
No one can seriously have any complaint about Stuart's actions. I think it's great he comes on here and fights his corner and most of us have the greatest respect for him for it.

If the editor were to do the same then it's still possible the damage could be repaired but the longer they leave it, the more distant a prospect that becomes.

Exactly PB, Stuart has tried his utmost to calm the waters but it is not up to him to issue an apology, that's for senior management to do, It's becoming increasingly obvious that it is never going to happen because they stand by the article, agree with the article due to the fact they sanctioned the article.

Doesnt anybody else feel that the MEN has done just what they set out to do .
Write a in accurate artical and upset all blues who read the MEN.
These blues then express their dissgust on a blue forum.
This then generates 1000`s of fresh hits on their website.
Then refuse to remove artical. Thus creating outrage from more blues. Causing more hits.
Maintain this for approx 48 hrs. Hoping more people click on to see if its removed.
Eventually issue an apology with link on blue forum.
So causing record numbers of blues to click on link.
BINGO !

Allow dust to settle for approx 6 months........... And repeat

Happens mate.

Pre-Lynch, I gave up trying to read various articles first thing in the Morning, as clicking on them directed me straight to adverts.

I just use News Now. Most of it is s***, but there are some decent links and good articles to be found.

I am as staggered at this article as the rest of you, and have made my views known to David and to our online operation, as have one or two other journalists.
In fact, I have just written a reply to David's article which is due to go online shortly - apologies in advance if it is misses any points, but it had to be done quickly.
All I can say is that David is entitled to his opinion.
He may be entitled to an opinion but it is beholding on the MEN not to publish such utter rubbish. The fact that they let it go on public view says a lot about the people in charge at that despicable establishment.

I just wish that our club was not so passive in its dealings with the gutter press.

At the end of the day Mr lynch's managers aren't going to hang him out to dry.
It's the old adage never explain, never apologize.
Stuart has gone out of his way to calm things down but isn't in a position to go against company policy.

That's certainly got a little bit of truth in it, but it's more just basic incompetence than some Machavelian master plan. If poking a stick in and stirring the pot with a large proportion of your readership were a legitimate practice for the press, you'd find the Liverpool Echo full of stories about what a dump Liverpool is and The Evening Standard full of pieces about Londoners being rude.

Clearly the author and more importantly, the senior colleagues who got this on the website, have no concept how football crowds work in the era of the season ticket. If the story were true, you could complain about the MEN writing negative pieces. As its basis is a pack of lies, you're only left with monumental incompetence, magnified by the way it was handled subsequently.
