Manchester Low Emission Zone

It's so nice working from home and not having to worry about all this bullshit.
Ah but it would have affected you. It would have impacted in everyone in greater manc and beyond, whether u drove a truck or a trike.
prices for EVERYTHING wouldve shot up, any services or goods that operated in n around the 500 sq miles wouldve increases prices

This has been a great source of worry and anxiety for me, as a sole trader im not in a position to just go and buy a newer van.
my 6 year old van that has only 70k on the clock, passes its emissions test each year , was supposed to last me approx 6 more years and then as part of a business plan i would replace with newer. For that reason alone, air will always get cleaner as older vans are replaced by newer.
It was always a tax on the working class. I dont drive a 6 year old van because i want to, its because i can afford only too.
Big business’s have leasing contracts etc so would replace every 3 years anyway!

it was always a money grab my burnham and the ten councils. Did you know wigan, oldham and rochdale werent even included in the order to improve air? They just fancied a cut of the pie. Greed.

im glad the cameras will be put to good use now as ANPR cameras. It will help fight epidemic of vehicle theft thats going on in and around mcr.

burnham is doing what scousers do, blaming everyone else!! It was his and the councils idea on how to tackle it, and now hes claiming to be a hero.
anyone that votes for the career politician slime ball at the next elections wants shaming

anyway. Thats my rant. An always ridiculous , unworkable, unfair idea and hopefully now i can sleep.

Oddly enough mate, on my truck, the emissions cost was £270 per annum, I only did about 2/3,000 miles a year in it, so in the grand scheme of things not that much, but when I came to look at normal cars to replace it, there were a shitload, not affected by the change, but were upwards of £500 a year, made me question the logic in it tbh.

I think it was all thought out by people who havent experienced life outside of politics . Was just easy to bill white van man

Whilst I’m no fan of Burnham’s, isn’t this being driven by Central Government insisting we meet certain criteria for our air quality by 2024? What happens if we don’t?

it does seem a bit sledgehammer to crack a nut.
To be fair to Burnham, all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester failed the World Health Organisation air pollution test figures back in the Autumn last year.

He had to do something but he chose a poorly thought out option.

Im more than understanding that something had to be done but he totally got this wrong.

after the covid lockdown fiasco in dec 20 and now this, id imagine his hopes of becoming labour leader have now bitten the dust

Using the climate crisis to increase revenue.. there will be a lot more of this to come.

If you think this doesn't impact you, it does. Expect to see increased delivery charges for online shopping, house maintenance / any work that requires a van.

This adds to increases we are seeing elsewhere with NI, inflation, energy prices etc.

How do I find out if my van is affected or not.
I assume it will be listed somewhere on the GOV UK website but I cannot see it.

Found it.
It states no charge but is that just now or still no charge in May?

To be fair, that’s a good thing anyway even if this is scrapped.
Yep I'm glad we upgraded a couple of the vans and are fortunate enough to be able to afford it, got shut of one with the highest mileage, but we could have directed the money in other directions we really need to take extra site lads on as a priority and probably still will. What the annoying bit is it seems very little to do with cleaning up the air and more to do with draining a bit more off Joe Muggins while sat in an ivory dream world.
