Manchester Low Emission Zone

Whilst I’m no fan of Burnham’s, isn’t this being driven by Central Government insisting we meet certain criteria for our air quality by 2024? What happens if we don’t?

it does seem a bit sledgehammer to crack a nut.
Central government want clean air but they did not tell GMC to enforce this stupid idea.
How about better trains, trams, buses and cycle lanes (proper ones not cones lobbed off the back of a corpy wagon)
Burnham wanted a congestion charge zone, the voters said NO. So this is it by stealth. First vans lorries and buses shortly followed by any cars, motorbikes, prams, anything that vaginally moved.

May change your mind, btw, Vans were in the 2nd phase, 2023.

Burnham just goes which ever way the wind is blowing.

It he’s that arsed about the enviroment why is he constantly trying to push through building 10’s of thousands of houses on the greenbelt.

Sooner he fucks off to be labour leader the better

How do we pay for better trains, trams, buses and cycle lanes given that our budget is less than it was 12 years ago?

It isn't GMCA enforcing it, it is a joint effort by the 10 districts who the burden falls open and their decision. Plus their are clear deadlines set by central Gov to enforce it.

What puzzles me is how come Birmingham's LEZ covers about 3sq miles of just the City Centre, Sheffield is smaller still, yet Manchester's covers nearly 500sq miles!!

Do Birmingham and Sheffield really have much better air quality, I don't think so !

Yes central government told Local Authorities to improve their air quality, But how they go about it was left up to the LA and Andy Burnham is clearly using a sledge hammer to crack a nut.

I’d guess the cameras and IT resources will be reassigned to law/traffic enforcement , if it does get scrapped.

if it doesn’t get scrapped, i can see a hefty turnover in maliciously damaged cameras as people ‘protect’ their area from the charge
Think burnham mentioned poluce using as cop cameras , which is great
