Manchester Low Emission Zone

We've just spent 50k on changing 2 of our vans to Euro 6s oh joy.
If the business can afford it that’s good practice anyway but grants were going to be available with details being sent this month, may jumped the gun a bit there.

However, an Auto Electrician I know who is knowledgeable about these things reckons Van will be increasingly more expensive this year so you have probably made the right decision.

Problem is, if your business lies just outside Greater Manchester, I don't think you will qualify for a grant?

It's so nice working from home and not having to worry about all this bullshit.
Its going to have a massive detrimental effect on the cost of living in Manchester as many small and medium businesses will just have to pass the costs on to their customers, and this includes the majority of independent shops, bars and restaurants in addition to all the other businesses such as contactors. New vans are like hens teeth and 2nd hand ones have gone up in value a lot.

Its a really heavy tough burden to place on the people of Manchester and the surrounding areas coming straight after the recession of the pandemic.

Andy Burnham doesn't seem to realise that it is precisely the businesses that have struggled the most the past two years that will now suffer the most again under the LEZ.

I would think that is totally correct, I know we were supposed to get info on grants this month which would have made sense but I guess we’ll hear nothing now.

. . . . . . . .

The time is nigh for Andy to begin thinking about 'votes', ballot boxes, be it locally or nationally, so he'll go with the 'clean air' hounds, whilst still maintaining a seat on one of the horses. After all, he is a politician.

The 'model' that has stumped up this jamboree will not have the faintest idea of how the economy will operate under the scheme. They will have produced a scenario, knowing that there is some 'detriment', hence the scramble for more cash, but how bad will it be on people's livelihoods and general costs? I doubt they have anything beyond the vaguest idea.
