Manchester public transport vision

I agree having an underground would be great, but even with the different size tunnels/spaces etc, it would still be a harder task, than nothing being there, because a tunnel boring machine (with auto tunnel lining) cant be done, as too much ‘infrastructure’ lies in the ground/above ground. This is why crossrail has been so expensive - digging a tunnel and associated additional space under infrastructure is time consuming and fraught with many unforeseen issues.

Yeah but whilst expensive and difficult it’s funny how they still do it in London not once but twice whereas meanwhile in Manchester it’s too hard and expensive.

Indeed.

But spare a thought for the north east, who get even less than us by about the same margin. Iirc

The percentage amount of money spent in the ‘south east’ , be it transport, infrastructure, arts or otherwise , compared to the rest of the uK is obscene.

Without wanting to be a pedantic **** I’d wager that London is UNDER funded when you consider the net contribution to Britain’s economy. Yes, I may be biased as I live here but the facts are just that. London is king, financially anyway.

FWIW I do like the decentralisation efforts of relocations of bbc/itv etc to media city etc. It keeps you fuckers out of London at least ( joke just in case ).

The poor transport network up here is a reason why the North doesn’t contribute more to the economy.

We’re still on diesel trails up here and the services are a shambles. Buses only run properly on routes that are the most profitable. A huge chunk of Metrolink uses the same road network as cars/buses/cycles which clogs up the whole system as they’re all using the same routes at many hotspots.

Yep and if you keep pumping more and more more money into it at the expense of elsewhere in the country it will get richer and richer and the rest of the country will get shitter and shitter.

1960s diesel chuggers 1 an hour if you are lucky . The govt talks about green energy and banning dirty nasty diesels but still runs old polluting inefficient trains .

Not having a car in London is an easy choice to make, it’s a difficult one outside London

Who’d boast about being a Londoner? Most of your lot fucked off to Essex and beyond a decade or two ago. Stabbings, shootings, terrorism, no integration, poor social cohesion etc.

There should be one ticket to cover all buses, trams and local trains. It could get quite expensive at times. I also found the Trafford Centre an absolute nuisance to get to without a car.

It’s probably difficult logistically to organise all this. Glad it’s not my job!
Trafford centre trams are almost done.
