Manchester Storm - Ice Hockey

Hopefully Swindlehurst will add something to the defence, if not immediately definitely in the future with him only being 22. I've been really impressed with Scarsella, he's a tidy player and probably the most likely to make something happen in the games I've seen. I was impressed with a guy that played in the first game I went to, a penalties loss aganst Fife, Matt Caria, but I've not seen him since. Has he left?

Yeah they let Caria go when they bought in Derek Roehl about 2 weeks ago. we hit a limit on the number of imported players and they chose to let him go as he wasn't that great at defending when needed apparently. but he scored some amazing goals.

Went to quite a lot of Storm games in the 90's at Nynex and always a decent night out. Even went to a few aways at places like Sheffield. One of my mates is passionate about 'em and was over the moon when they reformed last summer, so got sucked in a bit again myself. Very unfortunate last night by all accounts but things coming together hopefully. Well worth watching a game if you fancy giving something new a try and the support would definitely be appreciated.

Regarding Phoenix, this was posted this week (the website of the company who will be building the new venue) www.icetechuk.com

Will be interesting to see where they put it and what they class as a temporary location. The Cardiff fans last night seemed really happy with the new arena these guys made for them. I wonder if Phoenix will try to jump up the leagues again.

I used to watch Storm at the Nynex when I was a kid as well and always had an interest in ice hockey. When Phoenix moved to Alty I started going again, only 7-8 times a season when Phoenix were in the Elite League. When they dropped to the EPIHL I must admit I lost interest for a bit, but I've really got the feel for ice hockey back again now Storm have reformed. I'm by no means a die hard fan and City always come first, but if I get the chance to go I will do from now on. It amazes me how fast the game is so God knows how much quicker the NHL is to watch live.

I must admit I didn't get to see Storm at the Nynex, The wife was a season ticket holder there though and she really has been bitten by the bug again, She sponsored Patons away shirt last night so she'll get that at the end of the season.

Went to watch the Tampa Bay Lightning v Orlando (The Intersate 4 derby) a few weeks back (free ticket via work) enjoyed the game but the constant breaks (for TV adverts I assume) where in the arena they wheeled out sponsors, the local police / ambulance / fire service chiefs (cue standing ovations), army veteran who lost 2 legs alongside his family (cue standing ovation), more sponsors and the national anthem and (I kid you not) the local SWAT team abseiling from the top of the roof down onto the ice..... just made me think I was at a US propaganda exhibition, not an ice hockey game!

Caria was appalling defensively. Downright lazy and kept getting put in the box for daft penalties because he couldn't be bothered playing 2 way. Put up loads of points but scoring isn't really am issue with this team. Since Roehl came in we've started to do the dirty defensive work a lot better and if we can keep some of the daft defensive giveaways to a minimum the GAA will come down in the final few weeks.

Last nights game was a farce at the end. Ref broke an unwritten code in practically deciding the game with his calls late on. The call on Pacha was a joke. Quite how Fitzgerald wasn't called earlier in the period for Boarding Toulmin I'll never know.

Managed to get a hold of the own and loan on Swindlehurst's jersey. Look forward to seeing our name on it from Saturday hopefully. He's got the potential to be a top top player. Only on loan but his Nottingham contract is only for this year. With him being local and with the ice time we can promise him, i hope he'll be persuaded to stay on with us and become a franchise player for us

You beat me to swindlehursts own and loan! The wife tried to buy it for me yesterday lunch time. Lucky sod :)

I don't think the officials were helped by one of the linesmen taking ill during the match, having shortness of breath and chest pains so they dropped to 2 lines men. But yeah there were some awful decisions that could have cost is the game, or at least a point.

It's the same ref that liked sending people off for swearing at him.

Another good win by Storm tonight, it takes us in to the playoff position but there is a long way to go as Coventry have 3 games in hand over us.

Zane the net minded got The elite hockey player of the week award this week too.

Four point weekend and Coventry lost. Got to be the favourites for that last playoff spot now - we might even overtake Fife at this rate.

Just got home from the match, we played really well today, it started getting really heated in places, at one point there was a mass brawl with 3 from each team being sent to the bin.

I'm not counting the chickens yet with regards to the playoffs but it's looking positive, Cov have 3 games in hand over us and could easily make back th points.
