Mancini for me. The more i see the style of his play, the more i realise with his own players in the summer we could be on for something very special. Give him time and we'll reap the rewards.

I agree with this. Give the guy some time and let him build his team. Next season we will be right up there with United & Chelsea, I'm convinced.

Totally agree with this.

I'm despearte for Mancini to do well, to get 4th. to finally get City successful... but if Mourinho is the chosen one then so be it. I certainly wouldn't shed any tears over Mancini if Jose came in.

But what I don't want is for our current excellent manager to be continually undermined and treated as a second choice by the support who apparently crave the Special One... especially as, in my opinion, he has no real interest in coming here and is only using us to get a better deal elsewhere.

I really want Mancini to be the one... he's a decent bloke, doesn't bring the baggage that Jose would bring, and would bring us long-term continued success like he did at Inter.

You can't argue with Jose's record... but you can't argue with baconface's record either, and would I want him?

Maybe Mancini is being looked at closely and early because of the fact that he has a 6 month getout clause in his contract.

If City had signed him up on a 4 year deal and made things permanent, this would not be happening.

Like it or not, lots of people believe he is a temporary appointment and City have done nothing to quell that suspicion.

And also, there's a worrying number of people on this thread saying "well he's a nice guy and he wants to be here"

I'm a nice guy. I'd love the job.

We are at the top table now and some City fans need to adjust to that fact mentally.

If Mancini gets us fourth spot, then there's no doubt he has done a great job. It would be hard to appoint Mourinho or anyone else in that situation. Anyone who rules that out, however, might just get a surprise.

Don't patronise me with the "well, he's a nice guy and he wants to be here" comment.

Read my post. I clearly state that if Jose comes in the summer then brilliant... 'cos like you I just want to be successful, irrespective of who is in charge. I've never suggested otherwise.

Don't forget I was the one clamouring for that nice Mr Hughes to get his arse out of my club because he wasn't good enough while you were still preaching patience with him.

Where we differ is that you don't believe Mancini can deliver that, while I do. So I'm more than happy for Roberto to continue and prove me or you right or wrong.

I just fear the Cult of Jose has blinded too many on here who think he's coming in the summer to save us. My money is on that he's not.

And even Tolmie's Hairdoo wouldn't take my bet... will you?

Mourinho is an excellent manager, but many people here seem to have a very short term view so let us look at his last few results in the supposedly Scottish League standard Seria A:

Catania 3 - 1 Inter Milan
Inter Milan 0 - 0 Genoa
Udinese 2 - 3 Inter Milan
Inter Milan 0 - 0 Sampdoria (actually a very good result considering they played with 9 men for most of the match)
Napoli 0 - 0 Inter Milan
Parma 1 - 1 Inter Milan

1 win, 4 draws and 1 defeat, hardly inspiring!

How people can judge Mancini after less than 3 months in charge and say he is not good enough when his enviable record indicates otherwise I just do not understand.

You mean we could be the first team to put out 7 defensive midfielders?

Even so in his 11 games, we have scored 20 with 9 against, he is doing well considering the previous 11 games we score 20 with 18 against.

Something like that anyway, I think people forget how poor we were and Mancini made it his priority to address.
Do you think Mourinho would have done better? Im not so sure.

Not so much emotive as selective!

You seem to pick up on my views yet let others with the same view go unchallenged. So I'm feeling a tad paranoid!

And you may have had grave reservations about Hughes, but for 12 months I got a fair amount of stick from you and the, ahem, "cabal" about giving him time... which seems bizarre now seeing as none of you seem to want to give Mancini the same respect.

The bet? £50 says Mourinho will NOT be in charge next season...

if Mancini gets this club into the Champions league , he'll be offered more than the six months he's allegedly been started here on .....

The main issue is stability and we can get that with Mancini if he's given the chance. Mourinho could win us trophies but he'll be off like a shot to try and win the league in Spain.

I'd prefer the long term stability and I'm pretty sure the owners would. I could be proved wrong but hopefully not. Personally I'd rather wait 2 years for a trophy and have a long term manager than have one that came in spent a bomb, won a trophy then fucked off.

Soulboy, can't recall the bet...however if it was a wager with regards the discussions that have already taken place, it's pennies nobody can call in!

No sense of insight, varying of percentages etc, will ultimately be prudent enough to second guess Jose.

I would still hang my hat on Jose, however, have conceded Real is the great fly in the ointment.

He will not come to any other club in England at present, other than City.

I've got £50 on Dunguib to win in the 1.30 at Cheltenham today.

It should piss it, but the reason it wasn't a ton is down to the unknown.

Led to believe Mancini held a meeting in the team hotel the night before Chelsea game with Cook and Marwood, about targets.

It's 70 points mate - that could easily suggest Mancini still has it in his own hands - and that Champs League is not a pre-requisite.

However, if this was the case, it also suggests that City's board were concerned enough to think we were going to fall short.

I don't go for this honourable thing, either. As Billy Shears says, if Jose gives form wink, the owners will press the button.

I agree it would be very harsh, but they proved with the Hughes fall-out, they will not blink if it needs to happen.

I think Mancini is a 'great bloke' and his full case cannot be made as he has not bought his own players, but he might still be prevented from making it.
