but theres the issue that mancini doesnt like playing 2 strikers and a creative mid... Apparantly.

And who told you ?

Just what fans say and what im leaning towards. Isnt that how he played at Inter?

Two 'solid' barry esque centre midfielders. But then again he didnt like wingers, and our whole threat has been down the wings with the signing of AJ.

Would:

Tevez Ade
Left winger AJ
Creative player BARRY /NDJ

work? I'm not sure.

Next season they can try to criticise his tactics, he did the best he could with a midfield of defensive midfielders.

can you give me the name of a top team that play 2 strikers + 2 wingers + a creative player and just an holding midfielder please ?

Football is made of two phases, attack and defend. if your team does not have a way to defend all of your attacks will be useless, always lose.

I see an holding mid and 2 box to box mid able to defend + an ex fullback playng everywhere....

Attacking isn't just about which players you play it's about how you ask them to play.If you play 9 attacking players but ask them to play defensively then you have a defensive minded team.

If you play 9 defensive players but ask them to play attacking football and you have an attacking team. I only exagerate to make a point. So far Mancini has largely adopted a more cautious and arguably defensive approach.Partly because he might think he hasnt got all the right personnel to be more attacking and partly because the team had been making too many stupid defensive mistakes costing goals and he couldnt trust them not to keep doing it.

All of that is fine and quite reasonable. Some will point at 6 goals v Burnley , 5 v Brum and 4 at Chelsea. Those sort of results will happen either against crap sides or when it all falls togather and the 4 attackers just click in a game Burnley were the original pub side on the day , Brum were ok for a while but just fell apart and the Chelsea game was a freak ( we were dire for 40 minutes , got the funniest goal of the season and then just killed them on the break)

But when tougher sides played well against us we couldnt do it and mostly failed to even score. That's what the experts see and comment on.They are not far wrong in their assessment of what has happened except when they say we are miles away.

Despite what I have said which I see as realistic and not blue tinted as seems to be the norm here , we are not a million miles off. Mancini now can mould the team how he wants with new players to fit the way he wants to play. If he still decides to be cautious then ok but to do that and be successful we have to work out a way to win 1 nil. So far he hasnt had one game like that ( has he?)

lets look at recent formation!

players adapt to formation as told by the managerthus this is how chelsea have played, were they are at there best is the fact either front 4 or back 2 can take the same role as the other player.

exactly, their players can really cover the ground, and do absolutely everything. No specialists as such. Just like Utd with tevez, rooney, ronaldo.

The problem we have is that Barry is not enough of anything on his own. and de jong, no matter how well he plays, limits the team. At the top teams, the modern 'defensive' midfielder is normally a playmaker, like Xavi, Pirlo. at the very least he has to have the technique to play the ball in any situation in either half of the pitch... just like Ballack and Lampard.

but the real problem is that we are playing innie-outie wingers, to do that effectively, you HAVE to have fullbacks who overlap and cross on their natural foot. Our guys just can't make the ground up (zab), or waste every single crossing opportunity (bridge).

Don't get me wrong because you have to be good to do it BUT the "chelski"way can be exposed bigtime by a team that puts pressure on both fullbacks,in our home game against them we did just that & the scoreline flattered them, but they will win the league.
The rags also did the same thing to a certain degree,2 wide men playing on their natural sides are far better than 2 playing the "outer/inner"system,
Bridge & Zab both tired the system fell apart & our manager just did no see that he could have put Ned & Micah on put Johnson & SWP on their right sides & drive on but it wont have entered his head & it never ever will.
He has a system & it worked to an extent in Italy so he will never change it.
