Mancini write-up by Didsbury Dave

The player forced to Russia as an un-used substitute, that's Boateng at the Kiev game right? No wonder he left the club after only one year.

None of us will ever know for sure about any of this stuff.

The club would not have granted him a 5 year contract in the summer if it was this bad all along, unless Khaldoon and (earlier) Cook were complete idiots. The staff has probably been ordered to avoid commenting on the sacking, and in general its poor form to kick someone in the back just as they're leaving, whether justified or not. Any of those players may end up being managed by Bob sometime in the future, whether by choice or otherwise.

Then again, you don't give someone a 5 year contract and then sack him the next summer unless there was a dramatic shift in behavior or relationships at the club. Txiki and Soriano were long term targets for the club, and were on their wishlist way before offering a new contract for Mancini. I would think there was at least some input from either of them, or at least theoretical questions asked.

Mancini had a strong personality, often authoritarian, which rub some people the wrong way. I think the club saw the direction of the squad, morale, the overall situation, and Mancini's perceived lacking ability to turn it around, and decided it was time to replace him.

Probably also had issues like the youth development being shit. I am sure Mancini would have threatened to quit if the club sacked several members of his "entourage", which couldn't have helped.

The article by DD is about as helpful insightful and even handed as anything written by a one eyed hack that I have seen

It's time for everyone to stop airing their mini grievances which will only get picked up and used by the hacks to keep the story going

It's time for "City" to be the story

For those who have mentioned the font apologies...it's being sorted.

There has been a couple of comments suggesting that I must agree with DD for publishing this but that is not necessarily the case - this past week I've had to swallow bile and print the most arse-kissing shite on Ferguson so by that logic I'm a great big rag too.

Fact is I do agree with most of DD's points but can also see the incredible good he has achieved too. In over a hundred games in charge I remain conflicted on the man and manager which IMO makes him a complicated and fascinating person - rare qualities indeed in the sterile modern game.

But am I sorry to see him go? Nope. We'd gone past the point of him getting things back on track.

Good post. The last two paragraphs are pretty much how I feel too, Lucky Toma. Grateful for what he achieved with us, but on balance think the sacking was the correct decision

might seem not that important but the reference to boateng having to go to russia with his children in hospital. if he means kiev i think dd would find that is in ukraine not russia. so not much truth or thought gone into that bit of his rant so why think any of it is anything but bullshit. as many have said the govan piss can is hardly loved i would guess by his players at all times but seems to have done reasonably well. all i can see is a manager who won our first trophy since 1976 and then followed it up with a league title has been fucked off and shafted as a twat by a load of players who should be greatful for him leading them to winners medals. this new guy had better be the greatest manager who ever lived or this board will implode next season.

Well said... Dave has given us carte blanche to criticise and lambast a future manager at every opportunity..

The saying 'be careful what you wish for' could bite back very hard..

No doubt the negative stories come out as there had been murmurings of discontent right from the start, with Bellamy for example.

You cannot argue with his record though and he brought us success, that if I'm quite honest we had never thought we would see. For this I thank him and he will always have a special place in all of our hearts.

No one can argue that we haven't progressed as a team since last year, with pretty much the same squad, bar a few poor acquisitions, Nastasic excluded.

In all a change was the right choice, badly handled maybe but had to be done nevertheless.

Thanks Mancini but now is the time to get on and get behind the club.

Txixi and Soriano now there football and helped to produce the brilliant Barca academy and took it upon themselves to swap Rijkard for Guardiola, also a decision that was unexpected at the time, can't say things didn't turn out too bad for them.

Fully behind the club and the men in charge, we're in the rights hands.

I hardly think Craig Bellamy can be quoted regarding discontent amongst the players! His track record of clubs & bust ups with anyone and everyone who looked at him the wrong way speaks for itself and needs no embellishment.
Apart fom that I agree with everything you said. Time to stop looking in the rear view mirror and go forward.

Our first trophy in nearly 40 years
Learning the language and culture of a new country
Overcoming the bias shown to Ferguson by referees and club managers
Dealing with a biased and untrustworthy press
Five trips to Wembley
An FA Cup Win
Our greatest Premiership ever, only our third after 120 years of trying
Charity Shield win
A couple of runners up positions
Having to deal with several problematic and egotistical footballers
Players who deliberately were"t trying on occasions
Incompetency from the likes of Marwood and Cook
Excellent relationship with the majority of fans

Only a major trophy in year one will be enough Mr Pellegrini

-- Thu May 16, 2013 8:52 am --

just to edit, I should have said appeared not to be trying at times, hard to prove though
