It just seems such a blindingly simple and obvious choice to make. Soriano and txiki may have their philosophies and their power bases but ultimately they also have their targets on the field and financially.

Obvious, true - but there just doesn't seem to be any inclination from the Club to make that choice. All the chatter seems to point towards him returning to Chelsea, with no effort from our side to convince him otherwise.

I think you both have to take into account that Mancini lost his last job to Mourinho and very publicly had a meltdown over it which nearly derailed Inter's season. If we are talking to him I suspect the most important aspect of the conversations is going that they're held in secret. As per the Barca book when they spoke to Mou about that job, which they did in Portugal to avoid all possible leaks and press intrusions.

Nothing more secret than chatting whilst Real were training at the Etihad....

Haha. Honestly, I don't see that. No way is either Soriano or Txiki gonna sit down with Mourinho at the Etihad whilst Mancini is manager. Fuck can you imagine his reaction to hearing that ... his reaction to them training there must've been bad enough after what Mourinho said about him after the CL games we had against them.

Was only jesting, although I recall an article saying we spoke to Mendes in January. I agree with you though that any contact would have to be in absolute secrecy.

Don't dismiss Pellegrini too much based on his lack of trophies (in Europe at least, he won plenty in South America before coming to Europe in 2004), he's only had one year at a genuine league challenging club and got a huge points haul... unfortunately for him Barcelona got a few points more so he was sacked. His work at Villarreal was very good and is what got him the Real job in the first place.

Getting Malaga into the last 8 of the Champions League is incredible. They have spent nothing - ZERO! - on new players this season and have relied on loans, such as taking our reject Santa Cruz, who is their main backup striker option.

And since summer they have sold Rondon (their best striker) to Rubin, Cazorla (their best playmaker) to Arsenal, and Monreal (their best left-back) to Arsenal. To summarize: they have sold much of their team's backbone, spent £0 to replace it, and are in the final 8 of the Champions League with a paper thin squad that was already thin before they had to sell three key players. At the same time they're 3pts off a Champions League spot in the league while balancing that with their CL campaign, something even Borussia Dortmund have struggled to do. And their squad is full of players who were deemed expendable by other clubs, yet Pellegrini has made an effective team out of them which has a W1 D1 L1 record against the duopoly this season (beat Real Madrid 3-2, drew with Barca 2-2, lost to Barca 3-1, still to play Real again).

There is no doubt if Real Madrid hadn't sacked Pellegrini after one season he would have won plenty of trophies. Now I am not saying he would do better than Mancini or be a huge success but of all the 'risks' on a Spanish style manager we might take, he is probably one of the safest we could take. And I think people would find his style of football pleasing, it would be attacking and fluid... plus Isco would undoubtedly follow him.

well put. I've had a mate tell me he speaks fluent English but I can't confirm this. Anyone?

I've read that somewhere as well (that he speaks fluent English). Agree another good post by LC. Petrusha did one a few weeks back about MP which was excellent as well.

I think there's an expectation amongst some supporters that the only way Mancini would be sacked would be for Mourinho or a similarly perceived A list manager - that shows a pretty spectacular lack of understanding and knowledge of the two men who have been brought in to shape City. I've said it before but i've little doubt that if Txiki thinks MP is the right man for the job, he'll lose fuck all sleep over giving it to him.

-- Sun Mar 24, 2013 7:49 pm --

That may well be the case. No reason for anything to change for people who don't believe he's the right man going forward though.

Tbf Bill, your comments about Mancini early on in his reign were ridiculous. I'll never forget the day Hughes was sacked, what was it you posted again? Something along the lines of, "I'm gonna stand outside the front of the ground and complain!"

If that is the case,so be it...... it will mean there is nobody available who the hierachy deem more suitable than Mancini, which,of course,is what will be best for the club.
