Obvious, true - but there just doesn't seem to be any inclination from the Club to make that choice. All the chatter seems to point towards him returning to Chelsea, with no effort from our side to convince him otherwise.
It seems, in a complete about turn from every other time this has been a possibility, that he was more keen on joining City than we were on him - rather than the other way round, as with every other time.
We seem quite happy to give Chelsea a free run at him, which suggests we have other plans in mind for next season - be those with or without Mancini.
I only retain a slim hope of him coming here mate. I'm not seeing many signals either.
But if they turn him down and go for someone like pellegrini they are incredibly brave men.
Yep - there must be a method to their madness. And I do trust these guys to know their football more than any Directors we've had in either our recent or our more distant past.
It seems a strange one to me, as the stage will potentially never be more clearly set for us to get him as it will be this Summer - but I can only think it must relate to a belief that he isn't the right fit for the system and strategy we are trying to implement across the club, therefore we are better passing on short term gain to ensure the integrity of the strategy long-term.
Whilst I can see the business sense in the argument that the strategy should be absolute, with individuals brought in to fit around that, it seems a crying shame to pass up on the opportunity of one of the few characters in World Football who pretty much guarantees success wherever he goes.
We need to seize the chance we have right now with both hands, as another season like the current one (particularly in Europe, but also domestically) will see us fall further behind our competitors in the perception of players and the global fan-base alike, with inevitable impact on our revenues which have now become so important to us. We have to build on where we are currently placed in the market - where the perception of success is everything - not fall behind.
We quite simply can't afford to have another season like this one, and Mourinho would guarantee that we don't - Mancini/Pellegrini/Moyes - I'm not so sure.
