It just seems such a blindingly simple and obvious choice to make. Soriano and txiki may have their philosophies and their power bases but ultimately they also have their targets on the field and financially.

Obvious, true - but there just doesn't seem to be any inclination from the Club to make that choice. All the chatter seems to point towards him returning to Chelsea, with no effort from our side to convince him otherwise.

It seems, in a complete about turn from every other time this has been a possibility, that he was more keen on joining City than we were on him - rather than the other way round, as with every other time.

We seem quite happy to give Chelsea a free run at him, which suggests we have other plans in mind for next season - be those with or without Mancini.

I only retain a slim hope of him coming here mate. I'm not seeing many signals either.

But if they turn him down and go for someone like pellegrini they are incredibly brave men.

Yep - there must be a method to their madness. And I do trust these guys to know their football more than any Directors we've had in either our recent or our more distant past.

It seems a strange one to me, as the stage will potentially never be more clearly set for us to get him as it will be this Summer - but I can only think it must relate to a belief that he isn't the right fit for the system and strategy we are trying to implement across the club, therefore we are better passing on short term gain to ensure the integrity of the strategy long-term.

Whilst I can see the business sense in the argument that the strategy should be absolute, with individuals brought in to fit around that, it seems a crying shame to pass up on the opportunity of one of the few characters in World Football who pretty much guarantees success wherever he goes.

We need to seize the chance we have right now with both hands, as another season like the current one (particularly in Europe, but also domestically) will see us fall further behind our competitors in the perception of players and the global fan-base alike, with inevitable impact on our revenues which have now become so important to us. We have to build on where we are currently placed in the market - where the perception of success is everything - not fall behind.

We quite simply can't afford to have another season like this one, and Mourinho would guarantee that we don't - Mancini/Pellegrini/Moyes - I'm not so sure.

Apprently re.Mourinho there was a tweet this morning from Porto's youth coach who worked under JM at Porto, saying "Mourinho's home next year" and the picture was Stamford Bridge.
He then went on to say he isnt guessing and it is the news everyone will hear.

Account then got deactivated, but it was a genuine account, be confirmed quite a few places, and articles about the youth coach include his twitter. Definitely going to be Pellegrini for Mancini IMO. Then again Im not convinced he will be sacked

If Mourinho goes back to Chelsea, I fear that we will be behind Chelsea this time next season.

Me too, especially as there are strong signs that wherever Mourinho goes, Falcao goes too (the Mendes connection). A serious three horse race coming up if this happens and it becomes twice as hard to win the league if a resurgent Chelsea with Mourinho are in the picture. Imagine if Pep had come to City - Pep vs. Mourinho vs. Ferguson, the three most prolific managers in the world at the moment.

Ditto. Looks like we've got pellegrini coming in. Lets hope Txiki and Ferran know what they are doing...

Don't dismiss Pellegrini too much based on his lack of trophies (in Europe at least, he won plenty in South America before coming to Europe in 2004), he's only had one year at a genuine league challenging club and got a huge points haul... unfortunately for him Barcelona got a few points more so he was sacked. His work at Villarreal was very good and is what got him the Real job in the first place.

Getting Malaga into the last 8 of the Champions League is incredible. They have spent nothing - ZERO! - on new players this season and have relied on loans, such as taking our reject Santa Cruz, who is their main backup striker option.

And since summer they have sold Rondon (their best striker) to Rubin, Cazorla (their best playmaker) to Arsenal, and Monreal (their best left-back) to Arsenal. To summarize: they have sold much of their team's backbone, spent £0 to replace it, and are in the final 8 of the Champions League with a paper thin squad that was already thin before they had to sell three key players. At the same time they're 3pts off a Champions League spot in the league while balancing that with their CL campaign, something even Borussia Dortmund have struggled to do. And their squad is full of players who were deemed expendable by other clubs, yet Pellegrini has made an effective team out of them which has a W1 D1 L1 record against the duopoly this season (beat Real Madrid 3-2, drew with Barca 2-2, lost to Barca 3-1, still to play Real again).

There is no doubt if Real Madrid hadn't sacked Pellegrini after one season he would have won plenty of trophies. Now I am not saying he would do better than Mancini or be a huge success but of all the 'risks' on a Spanish style manager we might take, he is probably one of the safest we could take. And I think people would find his style of football pleasing, it would be attacking and fluid... plus Isco would undoubtedly follow him.

well put. I've had a mate tell me he speaks fluent English but I can't confirm this. Anyone?

I'd be a lot more optimistic in that instance than SAF v Mourinho v Mancini or Pellegrini etc.

To have both Pep and Mourinho on the market and not to get either, as a club with our ambition, would be very disappointing.

Not much we can do if neither Pep nor Mourinho want to come to City but a potentially horrible strategic miscalculation if we did not try and get them; on top of, IMO, a horribly misguided transfer window last summer.

aside from newspapers reporting speculation as fact, we will probably never know how hard we really went after Pep (and maybe Mourinho).

I want him because if there are any better more tactically sophisticated mangers in world football, they are very few and far between and Mancini is not one of them.

If he doesn't want to come here, and he may well not, then there's nothing we can do about it but if he is prepared to come to City, we should do all that we reasonably can to secure his services, IMO.

For what my opinion is worth, I think either he will choose not to come here or we will [/color]choose not to try and tempt him but I would like to be wrong about that just as I would like to be wrong that keeping Mancini on is not the best option for the club.

I think he has already been told he isnt on our radar
So he gets to choose nothing regarding our club..

Correct,so when Dave and Billy,s gang finally realise this they will start the Barca boys out thread.

Yawn
