Mangala or Demichelis?

Are we making the same mistake we did after winning the title, changing the defensive partnership after the prior one helped us win the title,
I think Mangala is a great future prospect but he needs more time to get used to the league, but demichellis should be ahead of him in the pecking order
I agree. Mangala is very raw and over time may become a top class defender. But in central defence you need wise, experienced heads. I don't think we can afford to give him on the job training in these critical games. There is simply too much at stake.

I think me MP has to re-think the defence and to me this means reinstating Demichelis to the number one position.
I completely disagree. Mangala looks a very good defender and is doing a great job, especially considering our midfield is getting out numbered.

Some great foreign players who made it in the league over the years had a difficult start to the life here,Mangala is a great future prospect there is no doubt about it,and posters suggesting he is a waste of money are truly out of there heads, but with already possibly 8 points behind, should we be taking risk with the player who is new to the league or the one who has already won it and a seasoned pro and not to forget played in the final of the world cup, demmi gave Argentina the solidity that helped them get to the final,I think a slow transition for Mangala would be much better especially with demi in the ranks

If we'd left Martin as exposed as we left Mangala, West Ham would probably of had about 8 and he'd probably of been sent off. All game he was left completely exposed against pacey and strong opposition, with space in behind him, yet did remarkably well to contain them most of the time. A few nervy clearances, but he did exceptionally well under the circumstances. He wasn't the problem.
I agree with this. His strength and pace saved us a few times second half. We were far too exposed.

Mangala all the way. Also remember MDM is old and will get even worse while Mangala is young and will improve. Its the same thing when teams draft players, if youngster is as good as veteran, old guy can gtfo right away.

You have to allow players time to adapt. Demichelis had an awful start to last season - all quickly forgotten now and x is just sh1t.
So then why sack him when he was clearly the better than Kompany for the run home last season?

Mangala is looking like a complete and utter waste of money.

Weak.

He needs to improve and quickly because bar one game he has been crap.

You can add one or two more to Kompany's name and say he was crap in rest of them too.

I agree but that doesn't make Mnagala better. For £32m for a defender I expect the finished article not someone who might come good in 2 years.

Having said that we have needed a better left back for some time yet remarkably have given both Clichy and Kolorov new contracts. Both as as average as each other.

We only have to wind back 12 months and look at Dihno's early days. Wonder if the above posters are the same who was calling Dihno a waste of money then?

Yes, Eli looks a little naive at times and not yet PL savvie, but we invested a lot of effort in courting him and then spending a considerable amount in getting him. Let's leave it to the pro's when it comes to who we buy. Give Eli time, and he will be a force to be reckoned with.

Didn't take the flappers long though!

good to see you awake mate, everyone knew that Mangala wasn't the finished article and we paid 32 million knowing that. The rags just stumped 30 million on Shaw

Wheb pogba moves it will be a 50 million plus fee, but even with him you wont be getting the finished article. Remeber Hazard, he aint the finished article even at the moment and he cost 32 million 2 years ago.

With defenders we know it takes time to bloom. And they peak much later. City knew what they were getting.

We could potentially have conceded at least 2 goals more if we had Demi or Nasty in. only Mangala's pace and then composure saved us in 1v1 situations. Nasty hasnt shown he has that compousre, last season was a season of comedy for him he went down too early in those situations

One thing Nasty does have is composure. For a 20 y/o he has it in buckets. The fact that Boyata is preferred indicates Nasty's absence has nothing to do with ability or any other footballing measure you care to use.

That Mangala had to use his pace far too often to bail us out us a worry in that it means we are not controlling the game, the situation or showing any team discipline when it comes to team shape when we don't have the ball.

I do think though that Mangala looks an excellent buy.
