Mangala or Demichelis?

Playing an ageing Demichelis ahead of him would be stupid; players learn from their mistakes and he's young so has plenty of time left to prove he's worth the fee we spent on him. Mangala all day.

You can add one or two more to Kompany's name and say he was crap in rest of them too.

I agree but that doesn't make Mnagala better. For £32m for a defender I expect the finished article not someone who might come good in 2 years.

Having said that we have needed a better left back for some time yet remarkably have given both Clichy and Kolorov new contracts. Both as as average as each other.

good to see you awake mate, everyone knew that Mangala wasn't the finished article and we paid 32 million knowing that. The rags just stumped 30 million on Shaw

Wheb pogba moves it will be a 50 million plus fee, but even with him you wont be getting the finished article. Remeber Hazard, he aint the finished article even at the moment and he cost 32 million 2 years ago.

With defenders we know it takes time to bloom. And they peak much later. City knew what they were getting.

We could potentially have conceded at least 2 goals more if we had Demi or Nasty in. only Mangala's pace and then composure saved us in 1v1 situations. Nasty hasnt shown he has that compousre, last season was a season of comedy for him he went down too early in those situations

Fair enough reply but why are we looking like shit at the back? We bought a defensive midfielder yet we look worse than the last 2 seasons defensively. Why are none of our defender playing well? Is it the manager or the players? Is it Fernando? Is it Yaya?

2 goals conceded in last 2 games, 2 at hull, lucky to get away with one v spurs. It simply is not good enough.

I'm convinced our back four are solid enough (Clichy excepted), but they are not getting the support from the midfield and are then exposed more often that they should be.

I personally think we have to take a step backwards to move two steps fwd and this year, we may have to concede to the Chavs being better than us. I honestly believe we will rise to the top again shortly afterwards though.

The problem with that though is that unlike a forward who can get away with mistakes, a central defender, a £32m one at that, can't. A young CB with a price tag such as his is in danger of having his confidence completely shattered whereas a senior player such as Demichelis will have seen it all before and will just get on with the job until he gets to realise that his legs have gone for good. I'm just glad I'm not a manager facing this conundrum.

Mangala needs to play to progress and get better. The problem is our stupid high line and piss poor excuse of a midfield means our defence are getting exposed more than they should be.

We need to play Kompany and Mangala together at every possible opportunity. They're the future of the defence and Mangala isn't going to get better on the bench.

One thing Nasty does have is composure. For a 20 y/o he has it in buckets. The fact that Boyata is preferred indicates Nasty's absence has nothing to do with ability or any other footballing measure you care to use.

That Mangala had to use his pace far too often to bail us out us a worry in that it means we are not controlling the game, the situation or showing any team discipline when it comes to team shape when we don't have the ball.

I do think though that Mangala looks an excellent buy.

he had composure under Mancini when he had time to think and position himself. Under Pellers he was all over the place. Remember the free kick conceded at Villa? Many other example, against Chelsea at home he had Kompany shouting at him to get his shit together.

The rest I agree with you

And yet he was signed up on his supposed ability to play up to this system!

I'd argue that he does that. Much better than Demi or Nasty, todays game only highlights that. His recovery and pace allowed us to concede fewer goals that we might otherwise have.
