Manners

Thought I might mention this just to get your opinion -

I like blokes to hold the door open for me, carry heavy bags and generally look out for me. Go to the bar etc

However I expect to earn the same salary as any bloke doing the same job.

Now I don't see the above things as being sexist just good manners. What do you think?

Judging by your username you're from Acton, London ?

If so it's no wonder you've bumped a thread on manners! Londoners (in general) are some of the most unfriendly and ignorant people I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. I remember one lovely spring morning I was just getting the gear out of my van in a posh suburb in West London and I I said "good morning pal, lovely weather today". He looked at me as though I was an idiot ghost. What a miserable ****.

Manners and being polite and friendly cost nowt. I hated working in London, It's nowhere near like it is in the north west. Decent.
From Leve, Manchester. Acton as a name is from Cheshire, originally. I am a huge fan of good manners. I appreciate your reply. I bumped it because, I find myself more and more frequently having to explain manners. It only takes a moment to be courteous and show that a person is equal. Especially, in this crazy era of COVID-19 and political landmines we need to be more together than apart.

There's an old bloke who I pass when walking the dogs about once a month. I always say morning etc etc and he always blanks me, looks straight through me as if I wasn't there without fail. Now I dont know if I've upset this guy in a previous life but the other day he was on the footbridge coming towards me about 50 yds in front...I thought I'll have him....there is no way he can blank me with a 50 yd walk towards me, human nature wont allow it. At about 20 yds away I gave him both barrels, " Morning, nice day for us...." 20 yds and counting...nothing, 10 yds and counting....nothing, 0 yds, we have contact.... still nothing, he's done it, completely blanked me without any problem what so ever. Now being a fully paid up member of the human race I couldn't have pulled off such a stunt even against my worst enemy. I chuckled and walked on.

Yeah, I’m one who does all of those things. Although don’t go as far as opening the car door or pulling their chair out for them in restaurants; I do hold doors open and carry heavy bags.

But I have been given some comments about doing this. I offered my seat to an elderly woman on the Met once and she looked at me like I’d asked if she wanted to suck me off. And once held a door open for a woman and she said “I’m perfectly capable of opening doors”.

However, it’s been illegal for women to not be paid the same as a man for the same job for quite a long time. So I don’t know why anyway would say that as a point in this day and age.
