Mansour and Khaldoon's targets

The fans target is the title but the owners target is getting as far as possible in the CL as often as possible because that's where the big money is. We might need every penny to meet FFP comfortably and if we don't get further next season then, given his CL record at Inter, RM's future could be under the microscope.

Chelsea got £45m for just getting to the QF last season whereas we'll get £25m if we go out at the group stage. Of course we all want silverware and it helps justify the money spent on us in the media's eyes but the simple truth is that the Premiership title doesn't in itself bring in any money compared to finishing second.

Didn't take long, did it!

Already talk of Mancini's future being on the line and we're not even out of the competition yet! Considering the group, considering it's our first time and considering how we're doing in the league I would think the owners are delighted. They, and we know that the success in Europe will come given time and a better European coefficient.

Winning the league is far more important at this moment in time.

I don't think anyone's seriously questioning Mancini's future are they? Just some speculation that his target for this season is probably to win the title (based on his team selection the other night). I must admit I was gutted at the thought of being out of the CL, but I'm slowly coming round to the idea that our focus should be on the PL. If we win that, no-one will remember or even care about disappointing results in Munich or Napoli. I would expect to see a more concerted effort in the CL next season though...
This is not about Mancini. The same thinking would apply to Mourinho, Hiddink or whoever. And we're not Chelsea, where failure to win the CL is deemed not good enough. I'm sure our owners would like to win the CL but getting to the semi's would be more than adequate. Mancini will be given a fair chance to do it and we all hope he succeeds, me included. Barring a complete disaster this season, I'm sure he will get another 3 year contract this summer.

I think our owners understand that the premier league title is a more realistic option. They will be disappointed that we didn't make the next round, just like us as fans. But I don't think it has anything to do with the team Mancini put out in Napoli... He was simply rotating the squad to what he felt was the best option with the amount of big matches coming up.

Champions League success would have a cherry on the cake, but it seems it'll need to wait another season or two.

As De Niro said, our target for now is the title, but that could all change if the footballing gods are looking down on us. I will be very interested to see the time that lines up Vs Arsenal, but i expect a full strength team Vs Liverpool. It will be a true test of our team.

We didn't play as well as we can but the main reason we lost is the rotation, you don't rotate in a must win game, you win it the rotate v bayern when we are already through.
When we play arsenal in the cc he will rotate again when we should pick a team to get through. We then win the first semi well and rotate the second leg, that's how you rotate, not in our biggest game to date.
Liverpool is the must win game, not Napoli.

Just cant fuckin help yourself can you. You will be there waiting to tell everyone I told you so, no doubt.
Whether you like it or not it's a fact. I'm happy with Mancini and would prefer stability and, to be fair, we were unlucky in the group draw. But whatever Mancini does domestically our whole future & Mancini's job depends on doing well in the CL on a regular basis.
Mancini will never be sacked whilst winning the PL title year on year.

I think it's naive to say that. As Prestwich Blue has stated the Champions League will be our main priority long term purely for financial reasons. If Mancini shows he can't cut it the CL over the next couple of seasons we may have to look else where like Inter Milan did

inter didnt it. this is one out of the many "mith" of football. mancini was sacked becouse of his internal war against Branca and the team doctor. mancini was asking more power and moratti had to do a choice and signed mourinho already in december , long before inter defeat against liverpool.

It will be a major disappointment if we dont win something this year. Qualifying for the last 16 would have been deemed success. Now thats gone the pressure to deliver will be heightened. Dont be surprised if we see Mancini a little more animated.

I think we can lift another pot this season. The Premiership trumps all as far as I'm concerned. The Champions League was always going to be an adventure. I'm naturally disappointed that it might be over following the Bayern Munich clash but it's all experience. We're one tie away from the Semi Finals of the Carling Cup and the FA Cup 3rd Round draw is soon. Lots of look forwards to.

sorry, if this is slightly off topic, though it is starting to "eddy", could anyone recommend a definitive book about Mansour, and or the abu dhabi, al-nyhan family cheers.

Prestwich, thanks for that. It may be a bit historical, Trying to understand their contemporary philoshophy, worldwide interests, aims etc. She asked me what i wanted for xmas.

That's rubbish mate. He wasn't sacked for that. And we are not Inter.

Think the derby was bigger in the grand scheme of things.

napoli was bigger, bragging rights doesn't give us 20m towards the ffp shit.

besides after any league defeat you have many games to put it right, this has fucked us as it was basically a one off.
