What a fantastic first season. He has quietly gone about his work and when you hear his comments about the season you can tell why the players have stepped up this season. Despite what was mid-table form in our away games at the start on the season, he told the players to trust him, trust his systems and tactics and believe in themselves. They did. It clicked. We have been brilliant both home and away since. Chelsea and Sunderland our only blips at home. Liverpool defeat and a draw at Arsenal and Southampton the only other away stumbles. Injuries and lack of squad depth meant rotations when the big games came thick and fast in the turn of the year - Wigan in the Cup was a step too far. We respected Barcelona when we should now show why we are to be respected. We allowed them to play their game, when we should now play our own. With a few player acquisitions; and Pellegrini has said we will look to strengthen and work will begin tomorrow on that; we will be able to rest our key players and still handle the big games in all competitions.
This was a season of transition for many. The Rags dropped off. Chelsea slipped up regularly. Arsenal lost a few players and collapsed. We stayed strong. A league trophy and the league cup double. If we start next season as we have finished this, if we play as well away from home - we will be very tough to derail. But let's forget about next season for a while - it's been a long and tough journey and we did it! Congratulations to the players and thank you Pellegrini for pulling it all together.
