Something must be going on about breaking even money wise because if it is 53m for a 23/24 year old is “reasonable” considering what we paid in the past for players!

This on going investigating from the premier have we done some sort of deal that we will not over spend and have net spend of a certain amount? Or is this new Pffp of a 3 year of 90%80%70% wages % of income making us be cautious?
Since the PL don't appear to have finished the 'investigation' yet, there's no way we've agreed anything. I think we're keeping our powder dry for a certain 17 year old in case we have to jump in early.

I still think this is bad judgement and arrogance at the part of City to not even reach the 50 mil suggested and wait for players agitation to do its part.

This is one billionaire talking to another billionaire with extremely fragile egos. Very difficult to twist arms esp of English clubs who are all infused with Cash. A Torres from Valencia may work but dealing with Bloom Levy, that’s totally different

We over emphasised on Kane tantrums and his moronic agent and we did the same over here.

This is an approach I have seen Daniel Levy take a whole lot of time when he would penny pinch on primarily target till the last transfer week and then suddenly the deal falls through.
Arrogance to offer what we thought he was worth? Get to fuck.

What a load of crap !!
Just because City don`t agree on the same valuation of player makes us arrogant ?
FFS grow a pair.
I`m glad you`re noy holding the purse strings at City.

Bet he shocked that City win anything at all in the past five years, five in them without proper LB and two in row without natural striker.

Strange take.

On the whole they play good football and their fans aren’t a load of deluded nasty thugs like a number of other clubs I could mention.

I’d much rather have Brighton in the Prem than Burnley.
I think it goes back to the time when they almost disappeared.

I remember the media having loads of them spouting about there plight and right to exist etc when the club had been drifting towards oblivion and no-one was turning up to watch them.

They got a campaign going and survived but it was the crying and whingeing I didn't like. I don't remember anyone shedding any tears for us while we were in trouble. Our supporters were the ones that stuck with the club by turning up every week, myself included.

There are other clubs who's fans have stuck it out without media campaigns and fundraising to help them, Forest are a good example. Years of mismanagement. I hope they do well this season. There are others that have been through the mill.

I remember thinking at the time that Brighton deserved to go under if their fans had lost interest and weren't showing up. They obviously had a few media contacts and got themselves moving but I can't help but think they are a bunch of JCL tossers.

It irritated me at the time, just my opinion.

I think you’re reading too much into it. I just think we don’t value him as highly as Brighton/Chelsea.

Basically, what a lot of people forget (me included at times), is we have no idea of the complexities involved in any of the club's transfers. Nobody knows the conversations, the ACTUAL amount we have to spend on transfer fees, agent fees, wages and all the other bollocks that comes with it. We're simply being passed information from the media and making our own assumptions. We get who we get and hopefully it will be enough to bring us success.

I think this is very likely. Feel like Chelsea probably communicated to Brighton that they will pay a lot more than us hence the sudden breakdown in talks. Fees probably changed as soon as Chelsea entered.
Yeah, I think this is probably what happened and I agree with club in not being a dumb participant in a manipulated bidding game. We've successfully walked away from a few of these over the years so I'll back the clubs judgement.

Think Cucu's agent did probably mislead us that we could get Cucu for 40m. That's one logical explanation why we were confident about signing him. Another possible explanation: Brighton indicated we could get him for 40m, say in May, and then changed their stance (with Chelsea's interest in the background?).

Brighton have been reported to want 50m+ from the day we were linked with him. That has never changed.

Agent, maybe. Might have thought he could get it far enough for there to be a middle ground. Or maybe Txiki himself thought they would budge and meet lower.

I do get the 'what's 10m extra if it secures the player you want and stops a rival getting him'. But I don't have any issue with the club standing firm either, it has worked out well for the most part. Now we just need to sign someone else, equally capable.
