Not trying to pick a fight. I think if he was a gem we would already have signed him a la Grealish. But obviously if we do sign him I hope he’s great.... although like most he will need a season to bed in.
Yes but as I said, 2 of your front six are unproven as yet...,.,. and again most new players need to bed in. My point is if you put Raz and Jesus in place of Cole and Alvarez then we’re shit hot. So I would advocate buying someone but I don’t know who. Someone like Martial actually if he had the right attitude because he’s got enough about his ability to do well in our set up and can play along the front.
The variable we need to factor in is the World Cup - we just don’t know how this will affect things plus a very crowded programme. Obviously burn out is a factor with other teams but not many play the number we do. KDB played an insane number of games once he got fit.
Grealish didnt sign until the beginning of August & had a buy out clause

What does Ake have to do with Cucurella that would tie our hands?

The interest in Cucurella was reported months ago, long before we planned on selling Ake, possibly Sterling too for that matter. There is 200m coming in before Ake is sold, about 110 has been spent, with 2 free spaces in the squad, even if Ake is replaced or kept.

I get the logic of waiting for Brighton to sign a replacement, or waiting for them to rethink their asking price, or possibly waiting to maybe extend Zinchenko's contract first, who knows. I don't really get how Ake affects it, stay or go.
Minutes on the pitch.
Both Zin and Aké surely didn't get enough minutes last season.
Adding Cucu means trouble. Pep prefers not having too big squads for that reason. Also Cancelo would be limited to RB. More trouble with with usually fit Walker and Cancelo. This is not about money or squad places IMO. It's about minutes.

Anyway, it seems Aké is off, he must be replaced. At best with a versatile CB/LB. We'll see.

We could have been interested in Cucurella but if we can now balance the books by Ake leaving then it makes financial sense to do that first.

We perhaps thought Zinchenko might have left so Cucurella would have been required earlier. Honestly there is probably a lot more going on behind the scenes then we will ever know.

I could well be wrong.

Just kicking shit around...no worries...

Brighton: Hurry up City do you want Cucurella or not?

City: Hurry up Chelsea do you want Ake or not?

Chelsea: Bothered

Ok, so just your guess then, fair enough, I thought like a few others you either believed it because Pol happened to have said it, or maybe read something else about our books etc.

The zinch one make more sense to me, but I don't personally believe that either. There has been nothing to suggest Zinch would have wanted out, in either noise or his demeanour, and any early interest linking other clubs with him has disappeared pretty quickly which could maybe be saying something.

The club are well known to be patient on transfers, and when they think a player wants to move here, have been known to happily sit on it all summer if needed. Whether that is waiting for the selling club to sweat on the fee, or player to have his holiday, or selling club to find a replacement, or whatever reason really, they tend not to rush when not needed.

For me this is just one of those, maybe waiting for Brighton to sign a replacement and then let him go for a fee they already know, maybe the fee quoted is too high and are happy to look around and revisit, but any which way I myself don't think it is linked to Ake leaving. Particularly as he will need replaced. That is just my guess, could be wrong too.

One of the more logical guesses, I see the sense in that. Maybe. Different position that will still need a body in, and we would have previously had Mendy too By the end of the window won't make any difference what happens first. But who knows, maybe in the interim Pep would prefer avoid any distractions. I would still think there is a gap in the fee, and the rest is just us looking to find other believable reasons. Any one of which could really be true.
