The bit that confuses me in our dealings with this transfer is ever thinking in the first place that circa £30mil was going to do it for Brighton. I said weeks ago that if they had paid £5mil for him 12 months ago then maybe that’d have worked, but ffs they paid £15mil so it was always going to be in the 40’s before we got anywhere close.

If we weren’t prepared to go to that then we shouldn’t have targeted him in the first place.

surely we knew what the price was likely going to be though? Or is the optics if/when we pay the money of a kind of David & Goliath story where the small guy stood up to the big nasty guy and won?
