Marc Cucurella

If Cucurella stays against his wishes, how do you find this panning out?

I think if he stays you'll be left with an unhappy player on your hands, and as a result could (and probably will) affect his future transfer value.
Will be interesting to see……..you could be right but when this has happened in the past the players have been fine. Could be that Cucurella will be mightily pissed off with City if they now don’t meet the valuation (he’ll have been told by Bloom that if it’s met he can go right from the off) after being told to put in a request (which is a risk on his part).

The state of this thread. Let me tell you all now. Cucurella is staying at Brighton and I've had it confirmed by someone close to him, that I also know.

It's a nice dream for him and his family, but its coming at the wrong time for them.

He moved to Brighton with a 2 week old baby last year and he and his wife are settled now and she don't want to pack up and move up North where there is no beach, and in her words "agujero de mierda".

He is happy playing for Brighton and will re visit his options next season.

Oh, and some of you need to give your head a wobble thinking you can just point at a player and get him. The arrogance stinks and make you look more tinpot then the Reds, and that takes some doing.
Just wondering mate, is he still happy?

What are you talking about?

We made a 30m bid and are willing to go up to 40m, is that not enough commitment? You might as well just say we should just pay the 50m.

The money men at city know what they are doing, trust them.

Ok - I’ll try and break it down for you so it’s easier to understand.

I’m working on the assumption that a second bid has been rejected, as we know one went in this week - and Cucurella has just handed in a transfer request. It stands to follow - but it’s still as assumption.

At no point have I mentioned numbers - that’s entirely in your own head - but what I did say was in three way negotiations when you hit an impasse, generally all three parties will need to shift their positions slightly towards the middle to make a deal happen.

Cucurella has done his part by handing in a TR, which has a financial value to it as he forfeits his loyalty payments. That helps bridge the gap.

City will then, I would suggest, up their offer slightly to bridge the gap further. My suggestion was they’ll do this because the player has shown his commitment and gone the extra mile by handing in a TR - and they don’t want to leave him stewing at his club having chucked a grenade into their relationship.

But for the deal to happen, Bloom will need to shift his position too. Which is an interesting one, as if he doesn’t he’s putting it out there that he will block an ambitious players move when a bigger club comes calling. This will have repercussions in future transfers for Brighton.

That’s what I’m saying. And in that context, I’d imagine City will have agreed with his agents that they’re willing to match them in advance.

It’s precisely because I do trust Txiki, Ferran, Omar and the player acquisition team that I’d imagine this is the game they’re playing in getting this over the line.

Now I’ll ask you the same question - what are you talking about when you say we’re at £40m, and if we’re willing to go any higher we might as well pay them £50m?

That’s some fucking bizarre logic.

So let’s say we decide we’re willing to go over £40m to meet Cucurella’s efforts to get this over the line. What you’re saying is don’t bother going to, say, £42m - just go straight to £50m and be done with it?

Costing us an extra £8m for absolutely nothing?

If that’s your perspective and insight on sound negotiation tactics, all I can say is I’m glad you’re nowhere near our negotiating team mate.

I’m not a big believer in the theory that players down tools when they don’t get their own way over stuff like this - Brighton have been good for this player and given him the shop window to showcase his talents. But if selling players on at a profit is part of the business model which representatives of the club have said it is, and that’s known to players when they sign, then it’s a bit greedy of Brighton to be asking for more than a 200% profit a season later. This transfer request could also give us an insight to the character of the player for future reference.

Can imagine that Bloom thinking “the guys at Utd and Liverpool will really love me for this. Can’t wait to tell them how I pushed City away”.

Edit - For those that got upset over this post it was just a joke and a bit on ‘banter’. It is not meant to be taken seriously and is not something I genuinely think would happen. (Ffs)

So we won’t pay £50m but if he hands in a transfer request we will ? Not sure that’s how it works.
