It’s a lazy statement thrown out there by our more entitled fans, who seem to think negotiation is nothing more than asking a selling club how much money they want - and then paying it immediately.

There are plenty of examples over the years of Txiki negotiating very good deals with no RC - Phillips this very summer would be a great example - or convincing clubs to accept less than the RC, of which Dias is a recent example.

The fact is he walks away from deals which fans have got themselves very invested in, and that causes frustration - so they lash out and claim he’s incapable of closing a deal.

We get the same shit every year.

If the club - that's the club, not Txiki, becuase he's not a 1 man transfer band - wanted to get Cucurella over the line today, they'd send £50m to Brighton and the kid would be signing City shirts outside the shop tomorrow afternoon. We have the money.

If he's not signing City shirts tomorrow it's because the club think they have better options or can get a better price, and attempting to get that better price is worth a delay.

Think it will be a bit of a disaster if we don't get him which now looks a certainty.

He is perfect for our style of play and would be a long term fix for a position we have struggled with for 5 years. £50m seems reasonable when we have splashed that on other less gifted players before and especially so now we have got rid of Zinny which is looking more and more like a poor bit of business.

People on here suggesting we'll be fine heading into the season with Cancelo and walker with JWE & Ake as back ups give your heads a fucking wobble.

Clearly forgot how intense it gets towards the back end of the season when competing on all fronts for various trophies.

Last season we played Atletico twice & Liverpool twice all in the space of 11 days and only just got by. We've lost zinchenko and MUST replace him.
Has anybody said we are not getting a left back, give your fucking head a wobble.

I thought he was already a City player, few here said it was a “done deal” in June ; )

One was a release clause, one wasn’t? This doesn’t come off as well as you thought.
No, you miss the point. Value is about great deals. Paying 50 for a 21 year old is better than paying 150 for a 28 year old.

In other words walking away can be a good decision too.

I really don’t get us sometimes. A position we’re in no real need to fill? Sure we’ll throw the money around like it grows on trees.

A position that has been a problem for years? Now it’s time to be frugal about every penny and potentially lose them to a rival.

Fucking bizarre.

Fully agree. Really bizarre from the club.

Do find it hard to fathom that we are the same club who spent £100 mil on grealish but won’t pay £50 mil for cucurella.

Yes I know grealish was a release clause but we didn’t have to target him. I said last summer I don’t think grealish is anywhere near worth £100 mil and I still don’t now. He doesn’t even get into our best starting line up

Where as £50 mil for a top quality lb seems a fair price to me. Especially as we have bought full backs for that price previously.
It's as simple as the powers that be at the club think Grealish is worth the £100m, but it seems they don't think Cucarella is worth the £50m.

Grealish really ha nothing to do with what we're prepared to pay for anyone else.

this is why you do not run the club business. grealish is easily worth 100 mil while cucurella is not worth 50 mil
How is grealish easily worth 100 mil? He doesn’t start for city or England’s best eleven. Doesn’t score or assist. He is mahrez without the goal threat.

And when they both get injured, as they both did last season, we now have only youngsters and and 3 centre half's (of the four we actually have) who can fill in at full back. Its an effing shambles.
The transfer window is still open.

If and when they get injured we will more than likely have perfectly good backups.

I think we should trust the club and the process. Our management don’t often get it wrong.

If he does go to Chelsea we get the benefit of seeing how he does for them, only then can we determine if we fucked up or not….

Regardless of the outcome of this, I still expect city to be looking to add another PL this season and a couple of tin pots….

According to some he has paid his fee already due to his marketing value, I kid you not.

none of what you said goes into evaluating a player. showing your lack of business knowledge again.

I disagree. The fact the club sanctioned a deal for grealish for £100 mil will have changed how the club was viewed by other clubs. Before then we rarely went above £60 mil now clubs know we will play ridiculous fees so imo it does have a knock on effect

PR has nothing to do with asset valuation. selling clubs also know that because they also buy players.

I think they paid that because they knew Bernardo wanted to leave and saw Grealish as the only replacement who could bring the ball up without losing it.

So Grealish is playing in the "wrong" position.
