Marseille (a) post match thread

I do think it is quite fair to call out posters who say for example, Sterling is not good enough , would sell him tomorrow, falls over, is weak, ....... doing so just means that one needs a new hobby.
Do you think that would be fair comment.

As would be calling out posters starting "pep out" threads.

The “Pep out threads” were quickly pulled saving City fans total humiliation from the media.

It’s more the high press that makes us solid as it leaves the defence only having to mop up some rushed opposition passes, rather than being last ditch. We were solid because we had a high pressing, dynamic front 4 in KDB, Foden, Ferran and Sterling. Laporte and Dias didn’t actually have to do that much, because we had better pressers than Mahrez and Aguero on the pitch. And it will get better still when Jesus is back.
I agree with much of that, except i would add i believe the two centre halves also offered a new found confidence that has been badly missing in recent times. That platform afforded our forwards the extra assurance to play their natural expansive game.

Absolutely. I’m not slandering the centre backs, they are excellent. I’m just buzzing that the press was back as it is the most important thing that we need to have to be able to play the way we want. It’s why I’m adamant that Aguero shouldn’t be our number 1 striker any more. I’m happy to constantly take the abuse on that because I believe so strongly that without the high press we are average. I think our performances show that too. Put some energy up top and we play good.

Think some people's 'hobby' is to shoehorn their hate for a particular player into every conversation they have about football. That's a bit fucking tragic and is probably what JJ is reacting to.

They will talk about the players good or bad, some players will attract more comment as their position tends to be seen to influence the outcome of games more than others. Ederson for example he makes a fantastic save or drops a bollock it will attract more comment than if Foden loses possession or makes a duff pass that leads to us conceding a goal, If Aguero misses a penalty or Sterling orbits one from 6 yards out, or either crack a last minute winner then the same.

Thats all part of football.

Exactly. It makes all the difference. Press and defensive transition if the opposition escape are key.

What yesterday’s performance confirms to me is that Mahrez is a luxury player we can not carry at the start of a game.

his role is as an impact sub

Totally agree, he's perfect when we are already goals up and against tired legs.

He cannot be at the expense of Foden being accommodated as a starter.

Especially so, when Sterling looks so more threatening on the right.

I wouldn't argue, while Aguero is a legend here.....he wont perform the dirty work to anywhere near the level that Jesus does.
Our best football is based around collective quick passing, energy and industry - if any player falls short in that area our entire momentum and effectiveness is compromised.

hope Pep doesn't read this forum. Sometimes the criticism goes off the scale. When I read some post's I think they must be United or Liverpool wind up merchants. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with being critical after a bad performance and calling out players you think were not at the races(their things you do after the match down the pub) but calling for Pep's head after all the Trophies he's bagged playing sublime football is just crazy.
