Martin Demichelis

I did notice when they were parading the cup to the City fans MDM just stood on the edge of the area with his hands on his hips not really arsed a bit like he does most games.

Hmmm did Vinnie make a mistake coz he was doing Demichelis job??

Where was he for the sunderland goal? Completey lost for pace and was in no mans land once Kompany was beaten!!!

Do you really think he did well and that Lescott would not have been better?

Did he actually win a header???

In hindsight, yep, that good ole hindsight, MDM COULD have occupied the space had he continued his run that Borini ran into, but I think that MDM thought that VK had him bottled up in the corner and he retreated to a more central area! I'm surprised that Manuel didn't tell him before KO not to go into a central area if Borini gets a lucky bounce of the ball!!

Even I when I was a crap defender playing for a crap pub team in the 70's, I used to make a covering run behind to cover for what exactly happened on Sunday. I think MDM thought Vinnie would win the tackle and eased up. No worries hopefully lessons are learned, a number on here did warn that playing the high defensive line would lead to goals conceded and that has been the case. Next season we can't have MDM as our first choice partner for Vinnie. We must buy a quality centre half I would say thats the priority in our summer transfer business imo.

First of all he won plenty of headers.

Secondly Borini makes his original run behind Demichelis and with Kompany being slightly behind plays him on (not that we were trying to keep him offside) so he follows the run.

Now we can all question whether he should have been in a better position to cover Komps but if Komps either clears the ball properly or doesnt even make a challenge and just shepherds Borini down the line there is no goal.

At times in the second half they both took wild swipes at the ball which resulted in it being given away cheaply, however Tyler and Neville only decided to highlight Demichelis' error. It was the right choice to play him in this game ahead of Lescott.

All our centre halves have made mistakes this season yet everyone is over Demichelis' straight away.

I have to agree with this. MDM does seem to get the short end of the stick.

He is in a difficult position. Regardless of what we think of him all opposition fans and teams see him as the weak link and therefore he will be targeted more and more in next crucial games. He is bound to make errors ( all players do) which will be highlighted by everyone ( including us ) more than any other player errors.

I hope he can turn it round with City fans at least....it can be done. It's not so long ago Nasri, Kolarov and Garcia were all seen as weak links....they are not at present.

So for all our sakes let's give him a break and get behind him for the next 15 games or so.

He won lots of headers as he always does.

Because Demi's mistake usually lead to a goal being conceded

if DM had not put the ball in row z, like vinny never did... there would have been a lynch mob all the way to euston.

But they don't really do they?

You're just jumping on the media bandwaggon as a lot of people do.

Let's be honest, it was Kompanys mistake that cost the goal, Kompany played Messi onside, Kompany scored the own goal at Fulham, Kompany at fault at Villa.

Now i'm not criticising Kompany at all here but he hasn't been subjected to the same abuse MDM has yet probably been at fault for more goals against.

The bottom line is that we play a much higher line this season so we're going to be punished a lot more for any defensive errors.

Yep, he won a total of six aerial duels. Now you may want to go through the game and come back here to dispute that, or you may just have to accept that you're not watching the game closely enough. Nothing wrong with criticism when due, but not noticing one header won when there were in fact six, is very short-sighted at best.
