He was so far up the pitch because everyone was trying to play Messi offside, Vinnie played him on (a mistake which lead to the goal and sending off but he was still outstanding) as a result he had to attempt the tackle.
I have mentioned it elsewhere, i am not a fan of him and he is not up to our standard, but some of the criticism he gets is unwarranted. He isnt good enough anymore, but it is not his fault that he gets picked week in week and gives it a crack. We just look for a scape goat, he is the defensive Edin.

We can nitpick all we want. It's easy in the comfort of our seats. He was doing alright, but that was really a no-win situation for him. He had to be perfect in that tackle and it's hard as it is when it is NOT Messi who you have to tackle as the last man. Was it Iniesta who assisted? Not sure, but that pass was weighted very well and led Kompany to play Messi offside with Demichelis with his lack of pace having to make that awful tackle in the end. Either or, gutted for the team and probably, Demichelis will be feeling the worst. Leave him alone. He was bought as a backup remember? We knew he was here to plug us and give us some experience, but we would be hard pressed to find anyone - that includes Kompany - who would have done much better in that position except the very very lucky and very very talented few. Kompany might have made it, but who knows? Lescott, Nasta, wouldn't have potentially done any better, but this is all us nitpicking. It was rough either or. He was in tears leaving the field and that shows commitment and passion, he mistimed a challenge that only existed because Kompany was about 10 yards behind the defensive line. Kompany was entirely at fault in comparison but because he's our golden boy we'll criticise this new signing who isn't quick which instantly has made people see him as a liability no matter how he plays.

the left side of our defence is an area we've neglected too long, no point buying likes of negredo, fernandinho and navas when at highest level your weaknesses find you out

I think it is a stretch to consider him as a centre half. I think he has literally been brought in as a stop gap and to his credit he is giving it a go and putting in some decent performances, but he is just not good enough for this level anymore.

Agree with that he was brought in to be Kolo's replacement and doubt MDM expected to play this many games.
