What time would you get the Tram for say a 3pm game then? They hammered or died down by then?

We were in the before the Palace game and got an Uber about 20 to and missed 10 mins or so of the game.

They’re cracking pubs.

I’d say any tram from St. Peters from after 2.30 and you’ve missed the main rush.

Obviously you don’t need me to tell you that the less wiggle time you give yourself, the more chance things have of going tits up.

But if you’re not someone who treats seeing them kick off as life and death, it’s maybe worth that extra pint and letting the crowd die down.

It’s a hellhole plastic pint cups, shit beer, stinks & the toilets are rank. Place to be if you want a sing song though

Tend to drink around Swan St, Ancoats or Oldham St before the game then jump an uber last minute.

Afterwards walk back up to Cloudwater/Track or Diecast.

Love the Vine and City Arms but its a shambles getting to the game from that part of town.

Going to diecast tomorrow before a gig
Last day of half price food offer

To be fair to the new guys, they’ve no problem with City fans going in there on match days. Quite a lot still do.

They were also planning on getting Sky/ TNT for the games but Michael had a special deal with them going back to the disruption when they were building the hotel all around the pub. The new guys said they were happy to take over that deal. But were told that deal was specific to Michael and they’d have to pay the full rate. I forget the amount they were quoted. But it was eye watering and they just didn’t feel they’d get it back in beer sales.

They’re nice enough guys and it’s still a decent enough pub. But agreed it’s not the same without Michael and even more so, his lovely wife Deborah ( RIP )
We still go their pre match on occasions, only City fans allowed, usually get a seat and easy to get served. Other than the decor I don’t find it much different than when Michael had it.

It used to be based on the rateable value of the pub. Don’t know if that’s even a thing anymore.

But I’m guessing that a big pub in a city centre will still probably be paying a lot more than a shitty back street boozer out in the sticks.
Discount off Sky if you sell Coors on draught. Another discount if the pub does hot grub.

Monroe’s used to be. Michael ran it brilliantly, members only on match day.
He left just before lockdown and it was purchased by a gay couple who’ve turned it into a Gin specialist place and renamed it (Piccadilly Central I think) They won’t show any football and stopped the members thing. They also refused to open “early” for any of the 12:30pm ko.
Their prerogative as owners but a shame nonetheless as Monroe’s was perfect.
Definitely still City fans only for a period of time after the match.

Just as an update, I made a point of noting the time yesterday.

We got on a double at St. Peters at 12.03 and it arrived at the ground at 12.16.

Plenty of seats available at St. Peters. By the time it had stopped at the Gardens and Piccadilly Station, people were standing. But not many. Certainly not uncomfortably so.

I stayed in Monroe's when it was closed on Boxing Night a few years ago, my mate called Debbie when we were approaching Piccadilly and she came down and gave us the key to our room and the door to the stairs up to the rooms.
Had been to Everton away and were staying for the weekend game.

Did they put you in the famous “room with a shower in the middle”?

Lol, no, we had to use the shower at the end of the corridor, but stayed there a good few times as cheap and handy for the station

If ever you’re bored and want a bit of a laugh, check out the Trip Advisor reviews for Monroes. Some absolute classics.

A couple of my favourites included something like…

… After a long day’s travelling I tried to check in but the lady behind the bar said she doesn’t work here and I’d have to come back when the owner got back from the tip.

Another one went… I’m American and tried to book a room over the phone and offered to give my card details but the guy on the phone said.. We don’t take cards, send us $20 in the post as a deposit.

Me and some pals were members when Michael and Debbie ran it. It was indeed members only on matchday with door supervision and it was run really well, you were always made welcome. We carried on going in there after the new owners took over. We supported them for 2 seasons, going in there before every home game then after the Villa game when we won the league we went back there post match to celebrate and they refused us entry saying they were full. We've not been back in there since and never will go back there.
Their loss.

I “treated” me and my dad to an overnight stay - they’d just taken it over - my dad then got poorly so I tried to cancel the room (about 5 days in advance) They refused and I got charged full amount. Never put a penny in their till since.
I also walked in before the Everton / Covid reduced attendance last game of season. Ordered a drink and sat down. Couple more came in but because they hadn’t booked a table he wouldn’t let them in. I said they could sit with me. Still refused to let them in.
I know it’s hard establishing any new business, especially a hotel in the city centre but I did question their customer service skills.
Each to their own and hope it does well. Won’t be with my money though .

Ha ha ha that was Monroes and that’s what made it so special. Mike never kowtowed to anyone or anything- especially technology.
