Looks like this is on, sadly.

Things have really progressed and United could have it done for the weekend, with all parties talking.

£40m big ones if Chelsea hold out.
Yup looks like it

As much chance as me paying £40m.

Why do people presume United have no money? They do, the Glazers just hate to spend it, but they have to appease the peasants sometimes. They spent £28m on the walking microphone, so £40m for Mata isn't out of the question.

United will spend and will rebuild, people shouldn't fool themselves. However, they have a dinosaur in charge and I think he will hold them back as long as he's the boss.

They have about 3 billion 'partnership' deals worth £1m-£2m per year.

Difference is, you can probably afford it more than United;)

40m for Mata....shows what a great deal we got getting Silva and Yaya for 24m each .....
Yes you have made some great value and some bad value signings. However, it's not really a fair comparison. Back then 25 million was about the going rate for a world class player. Now it's probably gone up to 30 million. Mata is not worth 40 million in my opinion usually, but to United he is. Chelsea should take the 12 million hit and sell him abroad for around 28-30 million.

Not having a go mate. I would be astonished if they are that desperate to pay that for a player that Maureen obviously wants to offload.

Bought for 23m , we don't want him so we will sell him for 40m.

I have no doubt that the scum can fund the deal but it doesn't make sense.

If they really are that desperate then happy days.

-- Tue Jan 21, 2014 8:42 pm --

Never once mentioned them having no money mate.

So you think the best attacking midfielder in the league last season is not worth £40m ?
